BOOM!Box 6.5 gt HARDWARE reset - all info blank
Dealer has gone straight to "Radio needs to be replaced" and I'm trying to find anyone with experience of flashing a Boom II recently.
Wondering what harm could be done to a system that wont work, with a simple 4speaker 1amp Techno flash, but Boom II appears to be special in the flash game

I'm not a stereo/computer guru.... but FWIW....
The difference between the Boom I (Stage I) and the Boom II (Stage II) is that:
Boom I (Stage I) uses two-way speakers and a single amplifier per speaker pair, two channels.
Boom II (Stage II) uses three-way speakers and is bi-amplified, with four dedicated amplifier channels per speaker pair.
I used to sell stereos in the 70s. It seems a life time ago now, but I seem to remember the higher end speakers with more drivers had more complex crossover circuits in the speakers themselves, that would direct the incoming power to the various woofer, mid-range, and tweeter channels.
Not positive where, in the motorcycle circuitry, these additional channel control circuits are, but it would make sense that the more complex crossover circuitry for the Stage II speakers versus the Stage I speakers, and control of that circuitry is in the amplifiers. That would be why the Stage II components need a different flash than the more basic Stage I, and "Boom II appears to be special in the flash game."
I believe the Harley Digital Tec II is totally capable of doing the correct flash(es) for Stage II applications. The Stage II speakers and amps are available as accessories for newer bikes with the Stage I stereo components from the factory. The install instructions state, "The newly installed audio system and speakers will not play audio unless it is configured using the Harley-Davidson audio app or by an authorized Harley-Davidson dealership."
I also believe you cannot mix/match various Stage I and Stage II components. So you would need a Stage II amp to run Stage II speakers. It's probable the OEM radios could use either amp/speaker system.
What I don't know, nor would I ever guess why, a dealer would lie about the capabilities of their Digital Tec II to push a new radio. And yet, it wouldn't surprise me.
