Don't know about to the motor, but yes to your hearing, those of your family that are in the house if you do it in the garage. And damage to your relationship with your neighbors if you do it outside.
I was tempted when I changed out mine on the 2011 I had. I resisted. Didn't want to take a chance. I've heard you can burn up valves pretty fast, but don't have any experience to confirm that.
