Blew mine in a week. my stealer gave me new replacements and I sold them.
I put the Infiniti's that most talk about here with an amp for less and sounds WAY better.
Same here - blew upgraded boom speaker at BBB and waiting to replace at dealer. While there took off all boom stuff and replaced with Focal and arc audio amp.
2014 SGS, it has blown 2 left speakers so far. Yes, BOOM upgrade speakers. I am hearing they had some quality assurance issues and dealers actually pulled them off the shelves if the speakers were from a certain batch or production run period. So far, the 3rd set is playing fine. Warranty covered it each time.
My understanding on this issue is if you're running the stock 5.25's there are no blown speaker issues. It's the upgraded 6.5's that are blowing...and only a certain number of those manufactured are effected. There is a new 6.5 speaker to correct the issue but as mentioned sometimes hard to come by. I have 6.5's all the way around and so far no issues. No amp and I've only been running w/ them for a few months so we'll see going forward.
Got mine replaced today. I asked about any problems they have heard of and got a NO answer. So quess we will have to see how long they last the second time.
14 limited here. I had stock speaker blow almost immediately. Lots of reports of this is my impression. Screw the warranty. Harley did very poor job on the speakers. I upgraded to the cvo speakers staying with the stock amp and so far so good. Sound is good. All four are performing.
I am pondering an aftermarket speaker + amp upgrade, but I haven't had any blowout problems yet. The Audio section here is very helpful, although I am now more confused than ever. There appear to be several good options besides Boom, which is widely disparaged.
Boom speakers get no love on the audio forum for sure. For what they are and where they are used (on a bike), I really have no complaints. The upgraded 6.5's sound good, clearer sound, more crisp, better treble and bass. If you do enough searching you will find plenty of guys who have been happy with them...myself included. Blown speaker issues aside (which I haven't experienced) I think the main complaint is how much they cost. $200 for two speakers is pricey, but I didn't pay full price so that helped with my decision. There are probably other better options for speakers; I would place Boom in the middle of the pack quality wise. It's a bike; I don't need or want rockin', thumpin' sound. I just want to hear good music clearly with decent quality and Boom delivers that.
