Mine was tough when new.

I believe it is fluid related.

I put Formula+ in the primary and Amsoil SevereGear 75-110 in the transmission at 1k, and it got better.

At 5k I switched to Red Line Synthetic Primary Fluid, and now, this is the easiest bike I have ever had to find neutral.

My experience, YMMV.

(altho fiddling with the shifter to get it into neutral when I should be focusing on traffic coming up to a light)

Where is the safety man when you need him?

I admit, getting into neutral was a little bothersome at first. Coming off a Honda VTX 1300, I was used to a very forgiving shifter, but after just a few rides, it has not been a problem. I just tap the rear shift peg with my heel and, voila.

Here's another perspective: I was riding with an experienced Motor Officer, and he saw me fishing for neutral. "Just shut it off", he said. I'm like...what?

"When you park a car with a standard transmission, do you leave it in first, or do you put it in neutral?"

So his suggestion was to just shut it off and leave it in first. I'm not sure that's what I want to do, but I did find out that if you just shut it off, it's a heck of a lot easier to find neutral.
I have always parked all my bikes and cars in gear. I have no problem finding neutral but I don't hunt much for it.

It was a pain to find neutral in my 14 SG from new til the 1K service. Changed to all syn and it's still not as easy to find as it should be, but it's definitely easier...a LOT easier. Also seems to be getting better with more miles. Break in I guess..and the syn fluids.

I almost have the opposite issue. I am running Redline Primary and Transmission oil and it is night and day from when it was new. I changed from the HD oils to Redline at 1000 miles and am very happy. I actually have to make sure to shift into second with a little force as I have went intro Neutral a few times not lifting enough. I am using Mobile 1 V-Twin in the engine and don't see myself needing to change back to any other oils.

I will say the primary seems to have some extra noise with the synthetic primary oil at startup, but once it warms up, no noise at all. That seems to be a common comment when putting synthetic oil in the primary.

Is there any way to adjust at the clutch pack like on a cable clutch?
