I owned a 07 CVO with XM and now a 14 Limited with the added XM module. My 14 XM works better than my 07 did. To me the 14 module is a step up. Mine works close to the way my cars XM does.
I have had a idea for improving the XM antenna. After seeing small XM antenna's on some cars I wonder if you could install a small antenna into the center bar of the 14 fairing vent opening? Check out the photo attached and think of that center bar as the antenna?
+1 huge difference, at least 1 more bar in all circumstances for me. Mike
I see how GSHOG ran his antenna wire - you other folks that have mounted inside the windshield, I'm assuming on top of the dash - how & where did you run your wire? Also, I guess it doesn't hurt the HD supplied antenna to get wet?
KevinCH.... When I'm riding the Metroparks between Strangsville and Lakewood, I'll get drop-outs, other than that it's solid.
Nice little fab you made up there, 01XLH!
I was east of Strongsville, on 82 in Brecksville. I turned off 82 into the Metropark & it about instantly dropped, then in another moment I had the "Signal Lost" message on the screen. I then headed further east in the park & came on the far eastern side of the Brecksville Reservation, & rode the back roads up to Route 8 in Macedonia. I honestly didn't expect much inside the park - but this was like someone threw a switch.
Just as an FYI to all, my wife was travelling home (NE Ohio) from SW Pa yesterday & told me the signal was dropping out of her SUV much more often than usual. It is equipped with a factory radio & rooftop antenna & generally has pretty good reception.
My XM antennae is mounted on top of the left speaker enclosure inside the fairing. Reception is good, only infrequent, short drop-outs.
There have been a couple of days where reception was interrupted more often. Those seem like external events.
I haven't been impressed with XM / Sirius reception in general. I had it on my BMW with a Zumo 550 and I have it on my car's factory system. Drop outs seem to be the norm anytime I get near a tree. My favorite time was when I went through a brick enclosed car wash and never lost signal until I came out the other side and drove by a cherry tree. I really enjoy the service when it works, but don't know if it's worth dropping the money on this module based on these reports.
Yep
Earlier this year, XM had the Onyx Receiver on sale $50.00 with a $50.00 rebate. My INNO had just died the day before they delivered the 14 Ultra, so I ordered the Onyx.
I did have to order a power unit for the HD 12v down to 5 from an online retailer, the antenna, Onyx mount and a few misc. parts. I made the mag antenna mount out of a piece of scrap stainless that was magnetic. I believe I have less than $80.00 in the whole unit as pictured.

Six7One, anywhere near Las Crucas?
I hate to say this but that is a hideous looking set up. Not a shot a you or your bike but rather just how sad it is the factory unit works so bad that is what is required to have working XM.
