I can't install the new version for my 6.5 boom audio/nav unit. I download a " zipped" file from the hd website. Now when I copy it to a flash drive root directory do I need to "unzip" it?
If you downloaded it to your desktop as suggested you double click it and drag the top file to your flash drive only no unzipping required.
You see two files the ISO and the .txt file, just copy or move by dragging the ISO file only to the USB drive. IF it is a new usb iT should automatically go to the root directory.
No unzipping.
Sorry, double post.

That process does unzip the file.

Yes, unzip the file and put the ISO file in the root directory of the FAT32 formated memory stick.

you computer geeks make it sound so easy but I don't think he understands HOW to unzip the file when he doesn't really have too like someone said when you drag the ISO file to your thumb drive it does it for you, at least that's what I did.
If you are running Windows 7 (or later), it will automagically "unzip" the file. Once you double click the downloaded file, you will see the ISO in there. Copy it to the root of a thumb drive 8GB or larger. (Root means, not into a folder on the thumb drive)
If you need additional help, PM me...I am a computer geek by trade and would be glad to help.
swdl_boombox_6.5gt is the file that downloaded to my laptop.
swdl_boombox_6.5GT.iso is what it shows when i open the file "properties". which does not appear to be a compressed file. i copied ONLY this file to my thumb drive. when i tried to install it on the bike i got a message something like "unrecognizable music format".
any advice other than take it to the dealer?
Don't open file properties. Double click the swdl_boombox_6.5gt.zip file and then copy the swdl_boombox_6.5GT.iso file onto a thumb drive.
Or do the following and copy the extracted file, swdl_boombox_6.5GT.iso from the folder created during the decompression (extraction) process to a thumbdrive.
