Default Speedo KPH - MPH

Hi folks,

I just got a fatboy 114, have added a stage 1 and cruise control and really pleased with it.

We are planning to travel down to Florida for winter and my issue is my speedo is in KPH. I have read several posts saying hold the cycle button on the odometer and it will switch to MPH (and vice versa).

When i do that the odometer, and trip readouts flip to MPH but the speedo does not change. I have read several posts implying that the speedo its self will switch (at 100kph the needle will drop to 60 indicating 60mph)

Am i missing something as I don’t fancy riding all winter having to do a conversion in my head!!

Cheers

Really? You need your Speedo switched because you don't know 100kph is 60mph?

You get used to where the pin is when riding for years and glancing at its placement, and now you want to change its position? I don't get it.

I do know 100kph is 60mph, but not all roads at 60mph.

I just want the speedo to be in the right units for the country i am riding in. I don’t thing that’s unreasonable.

If you don't want to change the speedo then I would take some of the old ladies fingernail polish and put a small dot where 20/30/40/50/60 mph are on the lense of the speedo to get a quick reference.. maybe a different color for the most popular speeds like 30/50.... can always scrape it off when you return home..

Also another idea is to trace the shape/size of the face of the speedo and mark out the conversion into mph and get someone with a computer or a printing company who can transfer the design onto a clear static cling decal and place it on the speedo. .. get couple made just in case... I had to do this with a road king a couple years back

Great idea!

Even a grease pencil would do the job. May need reapplication once in a while though.

Your mind is trained to identify a position on your gauge to mean "60 or 100". You don't read the numbers. I was saying I would never change the positions of speed. Ever.

Plus yes, if you don't know those positions and need to read numbers on your Speedo, I don't want to be riding in front of you.

I would also mark points for 65, 70, and 75 MPH as you may encounter them in the USA. I have the reverse problem, I need to convert MPH to KPH as all my machines have USA speedos.

I remember getting a Kph decal on eBay a few years back, for an Iron 883 I had. Cost me all of $10 as I recall. Several sizes available. Stickerhauz brand from Lithuania, of all places. Check them out.
