I change tires as another changes his (under)pants , I even changed tires before riding with them so I do not care how long they last or what it cost. I must say that I also
mount and balancing them myself and for the cost of a tire you will not struggle if the track position is perfect. I have always ridden sports bikes, that's where the number
comes from .

Not on an FXDR, but...

I switched to Dunlop Elite 4's on my Sport Glide. I have just shy of 10k miles of mostly high-speed interstate travel on them. The rear tire is starting to square off pretty good (about where my stock tire was at 5k miles). I may get 12k miles on the rear...time will tell. I don't know if they are available in the FXDR sizes.

In addition to lasting longer, they do pretty good in the rain and they feel good during spirited riding.

I'll check to see if there is a set that fits. Was watching some videos on those tires and they're supposed to be very sticky, wet or dry, and last longer than stock.

Personally, I want to avoid buying tires every 7 to 10 rides.

I have a line showing on my Scorchers. I don't know it is change time or not as they don't look bad.

Not a lot of options:

Dunlop Elite 3

Commander 2

Cobra Chrome

Marathon Ultra ME888

Pirelli Night Dragon

Pirelli Diablo

Dunlop Sportmax Q3

Battle cruise H50

Metzler Cruisetec

And some cheaper ones I won't consider.

Surprising is some of that sporty rubber! I'd love to try them but I don't want to be in the shop that much. I want to ride!

ME888, Night Dragons, Battle Cuisers, and Cruisertecs were some of the ones I'd considered when I got my Elite 4s. They all seem like good choices. I think ME888s have a great reputation for longevity. I passes on them because I was unsure of their wet wether performance, but I have no experience that indicates they perform poorly...just my personal hunch.

Hate to say it but I don't prioritize wet weather performance. I try to plan around the rain.

When I do get caught out in it I dial it way back anyway.

That gives you more options then.

When I'm on a work trip, I can't always predict the weather 7 days out across three states, so I always have to be prepared for anything. Plus, I was spoiled by rolling on Michelin Pilot Roads for a few years. Those tires will change your expectations for wet road grip.

I'm still on the stock Scorcher 11's. Now about to turn 8,000 miles and still life left.

I didn't see the wear bars as I'd thought earlier.

That said I'll e planning my next ride around getting a new rear and unless Michelin comes to the table with the 240 Commander III's I'll be using the Commander II's.
