The 22X is still one of our favorite cams, it's a truly sweet grind. Generally speaking in most cases it wouldn't be worth the effort & expense of switching to the 22XE unless you are looking for every last bit of power. We would also take into considerations any other deficiencies in the overall combination that may be holding power back besides the cam and plan for any future modifications as well.

Jamie, is there a 2 into 1 exhaust in particular that you think would best pair with the 22XE? I understand that touring exhausts seem to work better with this cam; however, is there any 2 into 1 exhaust for the M8 Softail that you feel would give the best results with this cam in particular?

For a future upgrade on my 2020 FXLRS, I'm paying close attention to the 22XE as my top choice, and wanted to choose an exhaust that would pair well with it.

Does the 22X-E require any upgrading of springs or anything like that?
From what I gathered with the 114 fat boy cam shoot out you guys did, the 22X was just bolt in, is the 22X-E the same?

We haven't tested every pipe in every engine/cam combination however an honest answer is from a performance standpoint i'm not really in love with many of current M8 Softail systems on the market when used in applications above about 110Hp, each of them has a compromise one way or another, mostly related to the necessary pipe design required to fit the Softail chassis; they simply don't perform like a FLH system. Some are better than others, we've had good results with D&D, S&S, Bassani, and several more brands, it really depends on the engine/cam combo. We've been working on a short M8 FLH system based on our new Jackpot RTX 2/1 and i'm hoping we can apply some of what we learn into a Softail pipe, it's tough as these motors want long primaries rather than a short system.

Thanks for the detailed reply, much appreciated. That would be great news if you came out with your own exhaust design for the M8 Softail platform.

Thanks for being candid. I much prefer a long pipe. So Wood 22XE, RTX HS and an air cleaner should yield good results? I realize it's all conjecture until it is installed and tuned, but what are your thoughts and other possible recommendations? Your pipe vs Bassani or D&D? Thanks for any guidance you can provide.

Well...bit dat bullitt & just bought the 22XE cam, S&S oil pump, cam plate & chain tensioner from FuelMoto becuase of their GREAT Cyber week sale with 15% additional off. Thank you FuelMoto!
Also bought the S&S cuffs from J&P Cycles cuz I'm a gold member with perks, so very cheap. Parts will be here Sunday. Install next week. Excited here!

p.s...2019 RK Special w/Arlen Ness deep cut monster sucker, V&H power duals & SVT Boneshakers ruled by V&H FP3. I know I won't get perfection with that setup, but V&H assured me they can dial in a stellar map for the package for now...

I have quick question and hope answer is not a secret. I am living kinda close to your shop and thought about stage 2 upgrade and wonder what would that cost me? I currently have stage one 2019 114” bike with VH eliminator, S&S intake and VH tuner. Any chance I can get some idea on potential expense for such upgrade?
