Default Need electrical help

I am a novice electrician at best. I have some LED strips and a set of fog lights that I want to be able to turn on when the bike isn't running. I did some research and set up the whole circuit on my work table with a 12v power supply and everything works great. I hooked it up on the bike and nothing. Can these lights not be hooked straight up to the battery? I know I haven't provided much detail. I'm hoping that those of you who are not novices will know what questions to ask and I'll do my best to answer. Thanks all

+ to +, but i tried - to ground because of how difficult it is to get to the negative terminal. Is this an obvious problem?

DC voltage, black is negative. Fuse it, and throw a switch in there.
Not comfortable with it? LED guys are not that pricey. Most swap meets find them.
