Default FLSL 2018 vs 2021

Hi,

I am in the market for a Softail Slim and am considering either (a) a stock 2018 (no ABS) from a private party with ~4800 mi for 12k or (b) buying a new 2021. Can anyone tell me what (if anything ) has changed in the model between 2018 and 2021? Based on the research I've done, there doesn't seem to be any, but just thought I'd double check. Also, does 12k seem like a fair price for a lowish milage 2018? I don't see any signs that the bike was ever dropped. Outside of some nasty scratches to the odometer is looks pristine.

Thanks!

I paid $15k for my '18 (w/ABS) with roughly the same mileage from a HD dealer in Feb. $12k sounds like a good deal. A quick look at NadaGuides shows retail between $13k-$17k which is strange considering a new '21 MSRP is $16k. I'm not sure if there were any real changes between 18 and 21. I doubt there were any external updates, maybe some engine internals? I think they might have upgraded the oil pump? This is the diff between '17 and '21 but I think it applies to '18s too.

Thanks for that. Yeah I was surprised at how narrow the spread was between three year old used and new as well. Which is what got me thinking about a new one. I did speak (well, e-mail) with the local dealer and was given the following out the door price:

River Rock Gray Denim/Black Denim w/ ABS
$18044.00 list price
1517.86 est taxes
327.88 est registration
390.00 freight
599.00 setup
299.00 doc fees
$21177.74 out the door

I have no idea how much haggling I could do, and haven't done any yet, but probably not better than 20k out the door. The used bike is probably the right call. Thanks again.

I also wanted to mention that that vlog was pretty good. I may go back and watch some of his older stuff.

After looking at HDs site regarding pricing, this base price is about $500 higher than MSRP (and yes, I realize the 'S' stands for suggested ). And I noticed this:

Harley-Davidson reimburses dealers for performing manufacturer-specified pre-delivery inspection and setup tasks
So I would refuse the $600 setup fee, and $300 is a lot to pay for someone to do 20 mins of paperwork.

Anywho, yeah, the used one is probably the better deal. ABS is nice, but it's also an extra cost/work if you ever want to bleed your brakes.

2018 Dump the HD lifters and do the oil pump go aftermarket. While in there get a good cam and ride happy. 2021 HD changed ECM and BCM new hardware harder to work with out side HD but not impossible. 107 will really wake up with a good cam.
But at least get the HD lifters out and do the oil pump.
Either way enjoy your new ride.
