WTF H-D 2 Sport Glide
Actually its a recurring thing Ive heard since early on. Many bought their Sport Glide to be able to use as a solo tourer and daily rider that isnt the 100 plus pounds heavier hog to maneuver that the Street Glide etc is. Bonus low center of gravity low seat height and great handling. Unfortunately the factory windshield options suck & the mini fairing needs some functionality improvements.
I know MoCo has been struggling to get ABS systems which the SG unlike other softails has. This might be why MoCo hasnt been sending enough and why dealerships struggle to get them. (Probably just short sighted management) The 5 dealerships in our area have always sold all that they were able to get despite minimal advertising or promotion by MoCo. Can you think of a Sport Glide ad? Many HD owners still ask, what is it.
I think if MoCo kills the SG it is a missed opportunity. The Sport Glide is selling well to women (an emerging motorcycle market) who dont want the 883 or the girth of the other baggers. They love the bars low seat height great handling sit in it instead of on it and easy to ride low center of gravity feel. Ask them most female riders that own them love them and would recommend them to other female riders.
MoCo should offer the SG in two trims one with its current bars & chrome and female preferred or neutral colors maybe add small sexy boards. Then another trim with a T bar, blacked motor, and trim with manly appointments. Cleat pegs or black mini boards different grips etc dark windshield a lil more dyna bro. And yes a 114 & dual front disks.
If on the production line they cant offer it with both motors promote some type of special incentive discount for a dealership installed stage 114 or other package if bought at bike purchase. No out of pocket, financed with your bike, includes full warranty etc. Be a win win win. For the customer the dealership and MoCo.
Plenty of buyers for this and the LRS. The LRS will stay the no 1 seller. The LRS is still going to appeal to those who prefer mid controls and its more aggressive riding position. Want to bad boy hooligan stunts & wheelies scrape your fender this will remain your go to.
The Sport Glide has sold well and is loved despite HD. If MoCo kills this bike it will be another misunderstood by management fuc up and cheaped out missed opportunity.
MoCo researches invests in develops and brings something good to the market. Then cheaps out & short sells on marketing continued investment and believing in the product & people who had the vision.
MoCo fails to track the buyers and missed buyers which causes them to fail to make the adjustments they need to make in order to allow for the long term success they were originally working toward.
OR.. HD is still stupid and is shooting them selves in the foot lol
i think the main thing is that the low rider s is filling the gap the most people want with the sport glide . Pretty sure theyre going to release a new low rider s model with the SG Bags and a more usable fairing for touring. Theyre just trying to make their production costs smaller by not making so many bikes
Now all that and quality is not what it was. Plastic pieces falling off, speedometer faces fogging, seats that fail, splitting on the seam, etc. I bought a new 103” engine for my Road Glide that came with bent valve stems (no extra charge)
‘I’ve been a life long customer but, I’m beginning to rethink my devotion.
BTW I took the 20 percent discount at bike purchase stage 3 114ci kit. No out of pocket retained full warranty made 116 HP. 25 months & 20k miles later zero problems. Also had to get a Gustafson dark windshield black out the trim & club style it a bit to my tastes. Love the bike for commute, bar hopping, poker runs, and the Ohio to Sturgis ride. It gets thumbs ups and what is its.
And then it ended up being not canceled and everyone had a foot in their mouth about it?
I think before making big discussions and making assumptions, we should wait until the actual model year comes around and we see what's actually is happening at HD.

I've said it several times, the Sport Glide needs a little more Sport, and a little less Glide.
