I will try and stop by the dealership today and see if I find out. No idea why there are two different setups. My bike is a 114 and there was a difference in the clutch the first couple of years. The 114 had an extra clutch plate. Or so I have read

Since mine has the spring stopper plate, I think I would have to take off the primary cover if there isn't a way to squeeze the the plate out to get to the springs.
I was able to do it through the clutch cover.

Mine had the plate. 2020 Fat Boy. I had to remove the primary cover to do mine.

I didn't see your earlier post. So that'll be good info to get it done for those that have the stopper plate. May-be a bit more of a struggle.

Mystery solved. I guess. And no thanks to the dealer who said the spring stopper plate had to be in there. AIM sells upgraded springs for the stock clutch so I called them. They said for part of the 18 model year that models with the narrow primary had the setup I have. It's so much easier to change the springs I will keep it. Harley likely started putting the plate in everything to avoid stocking two different setups. That's speculation on my part but seems logical

Question Related Question

I own a 2019 Softail with the 107 M8 engine and have a Stage 1 upgrade. I am getting ready to have the SE upgraded clutch kit installed but plan to use the OE springs because my joints bother me when it gets cool/cold and don't want to increase the clutch lever to become any more firm. Anyone done this or have any comments?

Another 15 minutes and you could have removed the primary cover, and installed a Star Racing Billet compensator ramp with your springs

Thanks for reporting back!

Yeah that's typical it seems of the dealer and their response to things. It's either the over-sized washer or stopper plate as something is needed to back the springs into the clutch-hub. Either way it seems that AIM gave you a better response. It makes sense to have fewer deviating parts from the different models and keeping track of one part vs 3 parts.

I wish I would've known about AIM having replacement clutch hub springs!

These ones are +15% tension over stock. Which correlates to about 1265 NM vs 1100 NM for stock.

The SE kit for the 107 just adds a few plates to match the 114, you shouldn’t notice any increase in clutch effort. The SE springs don’t add much effort though, but if it’s not slipping you don’t need them.
