New to handlebar installs and will be tackling this myself. Below is a list of what I think I need. Correct me if I am wrong. From what iv heard in the forum, the stock clutch cable will be long enough. I want to run the cables alongside the bars to hide them the best I can. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
I would question whether a + 4" brake line would be long enough given the bars you have fitted at the moment if you're going to fit 10" apes.
I wouldn't know about the clutch cable, other than to say the cable run to the lever should be smooth curves, not a 90* turn and you should aim to have a couple of inches free movement in the cable on full lock both ways. If your clutch cable ends up as tight as a guitar string, expect to have issues.
The wire extensions you have listed are for Touring bikes, you need ones to suit 2018 > Softail.
If you're keeping your front indicators dangling from the bars where they are, you'll need wire extensions for them as well.
You'll also need a wiring extension for the Throttle By Wire (TBW)
Get the bars, fit them, measure for wire and brake line extensions. Buy them.
Pain in the **** doing it that way? Definitely, but at least you'll get the right length line, cable and wire extensions the first time, instead of finding out halfway through the job that you really needed 8" extensions and not 6" .
Based on the pic above it looks like your Clutch cable will need to be longer for those 10" apes unless they are much narrower than stock. When you measure for your brake cable extension measure from the back of the stock 90 deg fitting. I know because I order one too long. lol
My 2020 Fat Bob (and I believe all the 2018+ newer bikes) have a LOT of extra wire on the Throttle by Wire cable. I raised mine 6.5" and plenty of slack. For turn signals I would order on the long side as there is no issues being long, but if they are too short it will be a pain to route and plug them in.
Just finished installing bars on my 2020 Heritage. Put the HD fat apes on. Basically went from stock which is 2" riser +10" bars to a 4" riser and 12" bars.. I needed a longer clutch cable, turn signal extensions and my TBW was juuuuuust long enough to work. Brake line was ok but I have it disconnected from the nacelle and will ride it like this until my backordered brake line comes in. But it will definitely be getting swapped out. Installed the accessory cable for heated grips later on as well. The ones I waited 6 months for had a broken wire in them.. go figure. Overall not a bad process, spent a night doing it and buttoned everything up this morning.
