Haven't ridden a newer bike, but it comes with time and feel. I know on TCs, EVOs, and Shovelhead it's fluid level, and clutch adjustment. You may try giving it the slightest throttle blip whil you have minimal pressure on it.
Also I may have over looked if someone mentioned it, but you'll always have a hard time if your trying it from Second, always First gear and slight pressure up.
I know it's a different world I now live in but evey bike I have ever had neutral was easy to find coming to a stop. Anyway the bike is cool and; looking forward to putting some miles on her.
Thanks for the input.

True. I've done it from second once or twice on the 19 Heritage but it is not easy. However it's actually pretty easy to do on the 02 Wide Glide. Different animal. But honestly, I think it's more important to focus on coming to a safe, complete stop, look around first and see what's what before seizing the opportunity to take a relaxing moment for my legs and left hand.
Readjust the clutch #1. Another strange thing I've noticed; once I wore sneakers and found finding neutral difficult whereas with my heavy boots it's easy. There's something about the firmness of the boot that seems to make some difference.
There are reasons for using neutral at stoplights and very heavy traffic. Some safety. Some personal. Etc etc. I get all that. Personally, for me, it's a short break. If I've been riding all day I need to stretch my fingers. Luckily I have a late model M8 with cruise control so I can do that going down the open road. Sometimes (and I am trying to figure out how and why) I have occasional tingling in my fingers. Usually the clutch side. Not serious and certainly not enough to make me stop riding or consider the situation dangerous.
It really does seem to be a thing. My 2017 Sportster is very difficult when wanting neutral not to get it. Either stopped or moving it is very easy to select from 1st or 2nd gear. I have a 2008 Sportster here and it is like your bike and tricky to get when stopped.
