Default Fitting SE spark plug cables

Just a question for the good people on the forum.I got a set of SE spark plug cables and the service manual recommends
●removing the tank
●removing the main fuse
●purging the tank
and so on.

However after looking at the cylinder heads of my 22 FXFBS it looks like I could remove the stock cables without removing the seat/tank and so on.So the question is if I can remove and fit the se cables without doing all the other bits recommended in the service manual is it ok to do so?

Left side plug leads no problem.

The plug leads on the right are set quite deep. There are two ways to remove them.

Method 1, Use something like this

to grip the plug cap and pull them out. This tool needs to be nearly vertical to grip the plug cap, so clearance with the tank on will be a problem. But there are a thousand variations of plug lead removal tools that may allow you to do it with the tank on.

Method 2, You could leave the tank on and just rag the old leads off and hope they stay in one piece and they don't leave the plug cap still on the plug.

Sorting out the plug leads with the tank on is a bit of a faff, but it can be done.

Pays yer money and............

Use dielectric grease on the boots, so when you have to take them off again its not a struggle.

Just curious as to why you want to replace the wire set on a 2022 bike?

For my 2020 Heritage, I just raised the rear of my tank (careful of fuel line) & it allowed plenty of room to remove/install wires.

For me, swapping wires, I wanted them to match my purse & boots.

JK - had some HD gift cards & the SE wires were on sale.

Then why are you here asking for advice? It's so easy to remove the tank, not sure why you wouldn't. But you do you, man.

Well I mentioned about the manual recommending to remove the fuse and purge the tank also. But it seems that isn't necessary also.I guess I'm looking for info from people that know Harleys better than i do.
