I meant no disrespect to him or anyone else, hell I think most of us are old guys 😉
I'm sure anyone reading this will already know there was no disrespect in your post. Again, good on you for stopping.
And so far as litigation, I don't think I'd worry about it. Even so, that is why there are Good Samaritan laws in place.
Good Samaritan laws offer legal protection to people who give reasonable assistance to those who are, or whom they believe to be injured, ill, in peril, or otherwise incapacitated. Wikipedia
And, I see you're in Texas. A good friend of mine was doing some testing of his brakes. He put out a cone as a stopping point and measured each stop. He was on a very secluded road, but said EVERY car that passed him while measuring, stopped to see if he was okay. To me, that says a lot for the folks of Texas! In some areas of Florida, they'd just as soon run over ya and argue about the new speed bump!

Thanks for the Good Samaritan mention, I looked up the Texas version and I should be golden if knee guy gets froggy. While I'd love to say that I've never had someone on a bike pass me by while on the side of the road, it's happened to me more than once. Most of the time the folks in cars or pickups out in the hills will stop or at least slow down and give you a thumbs up to see if you're good.

Reason: added info
How did the automatic contribute to running off the road?
Edit: just thought this through. If you are making a tight hairpin turn into a steep climb, you need to get into your lowest gear, and even slip the clutch to keep up momentum. Cant do this with an automatic.

Even if his injury isn't covered under Good Samaritan laws it should be covered by your liability insurance. (Assuming he even tries to make a claim)
Regardless, you did the right thing. I have no doubt that the regret of just riding on by and not stopping would've bothered you a lot more and for a lot longer!
