The reason most aftermarket cams perform so well (especially low end cams) is they close the intake sooner than stock cams. This builds cylinder pressure which helps low end torque. The tradeoff for this is usually a but louder exhaust note compared to a stock cam. I would get a cam that satisfies you from a performance aspect, then adjust the exhaust with baffles or mufflers to dial it in.

when i close my eyes and listen to my bike, i don't imagine an oldschool bobber.

I have written to fuel moto.

i'm currently wavering between the se447 (i'm afraid it will be too close to the stock sound) and the zippers 468 (i'm afraid it will be too loud again).

That is what I did with mine...check out the video below-

This would be my approach. Surely a cam isn't "loud", but longer duration or higher lift is going to allow more fuel and air into the combustion chamber so you will get a bigger bang. If you want the performance of more fuel for longer duration the only way to manage the noise it will make is through exhaust design. That's what all car and motorcycle manufacturers do when they boost induction power in road-going machines. They adapt the exhaust to reach an acceptable compromise between performance gains and noise. Race tuners just go for out and out performance and to hell with the noise.
Toning down the cam profile to reduce detonation noise levels is self-defeating. You might as well leave it as it is.

Cam timing on the exhaust side can affect how "loud" an exhaust seems- the earlier the exhaust valve opens, the greater the pressure blow down, with increased sound. Exhaust open timing on a cam card is the # of degrees before bottom dead center (BBDC) the valve is pushed open .050" off the seat- the closer that number is to 0, the less pressure exists in the chamber when the valve is open. 0 would be the quietest, with the least performance.
Stock M8 cam (107/114) has the exhaust valve .050" off the seat @ 33° BBDC. Fairly quiet, but stock performance.
SE447 has the exhaust valve .050" off the seat @ 42° BBDC. Fairly quiet, mildly better than stock performance.
Star 30/30 has the exhaust valve .050" off the seat by 48° BBDC. Little louder, better performance.
Same direction with the CR cam-.050" off the seat by 57°, so louder still, better performance.
To quiet the exhaust, while still gaining better than stock performance, look at all the M8 "bolt in" cams, and see where their #s are.
Redshift 468 (@ 35.5°) may fit the bill.

Thanks for all the answers and help!

Unfortunately, it's not so easy with the exhaust system in my country. The current exhaust system is the best known, the loudest and the least likely to make anyone think I've modified the engine.

If it were easier, I wouldn't be so crazy. :/

@rigidthumper thanks for the explanation, that all sounds very interesting and would fit with my perception of the camshafts. But according to the specifications, that would mean that the Redshift 468 is quieter than the Se447, wouldn't it? I have heard both in real life and would have said that the Redshift is significantly louder.

and where do u find these information? I dont find this for all cams, e.g. Cr483.

i'm riding a 2019 softail with the 107 engine and a 2in2 exhaust system from jekyll.

i first had the star 30 30 in it and then the cr483. Unfortunately, both are too loud and too bright or garish for my taste.
i'm looking for a cam that has a nice idle sound, isn't as extremely loud as the other two and is more of an "old school" bobber.
it should be for the range from low to medium.

i would be very happy to receive a few answers because i want to save myself the trouble of having to replace a new one 3 times.

many thanks!
One of my riding Fam put a something, something 475 cam (kit) in his M8 114 bagger. He had slip-ons, air cleaner mods, and a tuner before the cam. Before the cam change the bike sounded loud, but mellow. Not raspy or with a sharp exhaust note. After the cam, It's tough to ride behind him in a group now. Even when I'm 4 or 5 bikes back, it's incredible how loud that exhaust note is when he jumps on it.

, sharp, poppy are some of the ways we're "politely" talking about his bikes sound now. He's seriously considering replacing the cam with something smaller from the 465 cam family.

My cam selection criteria has been moved to the 465'sh area. I've been looking at any dyno charts and reviews for smaller cams to figure out where I want to go on my M8 FatBoy. My criteria, right now, is an early (2k RPM) high torque number with a broad flat torque curve that will make the bike quick while riding and touring. My riding time with the bike at 5k + RPM will be very limited.

Maybe look at some of the older Moonshine HD cam shootouts vids on YouTube. They include dyno charts and some dyno video for the cams they were testing.

Good luck finding your cam.

I also got the feedback that the bike was too loud on the CR483. We had a longer tour and nobody wanted to ride behind me because it was so annoying. But it's due to the bright sound.
As already mentioned, replacing the exhaust is unfortunately not an option.

After many videos and discussions, I'm wavering between the SE447 and the TTS100. Whereby the TTS100 is probably the winner.
Does anyone have the cam and can tell me something specifically about the difference to the Star 30 30 or CR483? Especially regarding the key.

Thank you very much!

Old New Rider had one in his Heritage. I think he liked it. I have tested one in a 2017 Road Glide Special. It is a very good torque cam and probably as good as you are going to get for almost instantaneous power when you crack the throttle. The first chart is the TTS100 in my 107. The second and third charts are not my motorcycle, but will give you an idea for comparison. It is a torque cam, so the horsepower numbers won't be as high as a lot of other cams.
