Here is my non-professional advice on the M8 motors:
  • Slip-ons Only = No Tune needed (My 2020 Fat Bob and 2022 Low Rider ST). Many guys have run this just fine.
  • Air filter Only = No tune needed. The M8 can adjust for added air flow.
  • Slip-ons AND Air Filter = No tune need, BUT you could benefit with a tune for maximum performance.
  • Cam or other = A tune is definitely needed.

DK Video above is spot on.

That bike always made popping noises when decelerating. It was annoying and I'd like to avoid that, if possible. I was told the reason for the popping noises was when I removed the stock slip ons from the slim and installed the cobra slip-ons, I also removed the catalytic converters. I was told that a tune may/may not have fixed that. Any help?
I have the Tab slip-ons with the zombie baffles on my 2020 heritage 114. I made the dealer put some S&S Grand National slip-ons they had sitting around on when I bought the bike, then replaced those a couple years ago with the Tabs. No tune and no problems since.

The videos mentioned above are absolutely on point.

We have another great video that addresses the decel pop in itself you may find interesting.

For those that aren't a fan of the popping sound, our Thunder Torque Inserts may be something to consider adding.

Feel free to give us a call or shoot us an email with any questions you may have.

Ride Safe, Ride Free.

**Update** I bought the Tab Performance slip-ons with the Zombie baffles for her bike, they were supposed to be a Christmas present but honestly, they were shipped so quick from West End Motorsports(highly recommend them!) I just had to install them. Right from a cold start she loved the aggressive sound of these. She ended up taking it out for a short ride(my bike is put away and I didn't want to spend several more hours detailing it again) and she really likes the sound , she said 'It feels like a completely different bike now!". I then took it down to the gas station, they do sound really good, there is no popping weird exhaust noises, so it seems the 114 handles the air flow differently than her 103 on the Slim did, so it would seem a tuner will be optional, I may go the DK Customs torque insert route, I'll look at this again in the spring . After I got it home I cleaned hers all up, spend quite a while detailing it and it's put away, covered, with the tender plugged in(we're supposed to get snow later this week). So it seems I'll have to figure out something else for wifey for Christmas!
Thanks for all of the input everyone!

^^^ Glad she is happy with the TABs Sometimes they're just a bit too much for some folks. Again I think it depends on the baffles you choose.

I am still on the fence bout so many things. Do I do the hard-bag conversion route? I have Kinetic Green so there is the whole paint coordination just for that. Then what pipes do I get to clear? 2 into 1? Big Radius? Short shots? I really am not a fan of fish tails. Do I spend the $900 to get just the saddlebag lids re-covered?

As much as I thought I wanted the Zombies way back when, I think I am going to do the Stage II cam with a tuner and see how the Rineharts sound after that. Maybe I can stop there. Haha!!! That's so hard to say without laughing.

We've looked at some hard bags, paint matched, Hogworkz has them and Advanblack are the ones I've found so far. I'm a fan of the stretched bag look but I don't think we could do that without a(another) exhaust modification, like a 2 into one or something similar. If we went with a set of regular hard replacement bags, I'm not sure there would be much of a gain in storage space, looks to be about the same. Other than aesthetics, why bother? We'll see.
