2018+ Softail Models Breakout

Best stage 2 setup? I really don't want to go with a screaming eagle set up.

Generally if you remove these things that "create back pressure," which they mean control exhaust reversion, your torque goes to **** and your bike's tune will run lean or become problematic causing performance issues.
M8 Engines prefer to have long pipes, with high velocity exhaust speeds to ensure that reversion does not become a problem.
I will have to respectfully disagree. Backpressure and anti reversion / reversion are completely different things. I note this only because new riders trying to find an upgrade exhaust may get confused by the terminology and there are still people out there stating that backpressure is good. A common example would be you take a new Harley that has cats and baffles in the mufflers. You remove the mufflers relieving backpressure but as FB said you low end torque go to sheit. That's not because you alleviated backpressure (which you did) but its because now you have some major reversion, poor scavenging and slower velocity. That's why in those type of situations lollypops or even better the DK thunder torque inserts work so well. The ultimate I imagine is to have an engineered exhaust system designed for your engine type that has great scavenging, velocity and no backpressure (an example might be Blow Performance Exhausts which have engineered stages into the pipes and are really short). At any rate im no expert but you can find this info in engineering papers from car builders as far back as Carol Shelby Smokey Yunic to Harley Builder Kevin Baxter. Gale Banks has a few great videos on back pressure as well. Didn't mean to go down the backpressure rabbit hole and thanks for the discussion.

I don't get what you are disagreeing with. She said it right... People say back pressure is good, which is BS. They really mean not having reversion is good. And removing baffles usually introduces reversion. They are absolutely different things, but most people don't understand either and continue to say you need back pressure for low end torque. That's what FB said.

I see $287.95 on my end. How'd you get a discount?

THAT'S what I was fishing for, thanks!

Knocked another $18 off the cam.

I have now made a decision - I have decided on the ZIPPER's Performance Red Shift RS-468
...Why?
  1. The RS-468 works/is compatible with the V&H PCX shortshots (This was important to me as I like the style and sound of the system. I really didn’t want to change or buy another exhaust system). This was confirmed by Fuel Moto as being the best cam to suit my exhaust system.
  2. Looking at the Dyno Charts, the RS-468 appears to have a smoother, more progressive torque and power delivery.
    My thoughts/gutting feeling is that the WM8-22XE, as good a cam as it is, is going to be too aggressive, from a torque perspective, for my riding style.
  3. The RS-468 lends itself best to my riding style – I tend to cruise around, shifting below 3,000rpm. It seems better suited for riding in traffic but having the extra torque and power in the low to mid-range will work well when cruising the back roads and overtaking on the highway.
So, I will be going with the ZIPPER's Performance Red Shift RS-468 Camshaft Kit from Fuel Moto
The kit includes:
  • Red Shift RS-468 Camshaft, #413-810;
  • Cometic Full Gasket/O-ring Kit (including the Torrington-Koyo Inner cam bearing), #C10178-B168;
  • Fuel Moto EZ Quick Install Pushrods, #FM-PR-EZ;
  • S&S Cycle Precision Lifters, #330-0718
In addition to the kit above, I also have added (already have) the following parts:
  • Screamin' Eagle Pro High Volume Oil Pump & Cam Support Plate Kit, Part Number: 62400260 (Note: If you have a pre-June 2019 M8 with the old pump, this upgrade is highly recommended)
  • Screamin' Eagle High-Capacity Clutch Kit - Milwaukee-Eight Engine, Part Number: 37000287
  • Screamin' Eagle High-Flow Injector Kit M8 Engine (5.5 gm/s), Part Number: 27400040
  • S&S Cycle Tappet Cuff Set, Part Number: 330-0655
For completeness, my current Stage I setup is as follows:
  • Vance & Hines PCX Shortshots
  • Vance & Hines V02X Air Filter
  • Screamin' Eagle Extreme-Flow 55mm Intake Manifold, Part Number: 27300167
  • S&S Cycle Billet Fuel Rail Kit, SKU:160-0287
  • Screamin' Eagle Spark Plugs
  • DK Customs 409 Pro Race Spark Plug Wires
  • Twin Power Coil
  • Dynojet Power Vision
Hope you have found this little journey interesting and informative.
I too want to use your exhaust choice. excellent sounding and the power chamber or whatever V&H calls it is pretty damn impressive. Not a 2:1 but it's a FAR better then true duels or a crossover.

will be watching for your opinion when your build is complete.

I installed the exact same RS468 cam kit from Fuel Moto in my 107 M8 Road King this past winter.

Probably the only other bolt in cam I would consider would be the 22XE for my riding style but I loved the RS468 cam in my previous 107 Ultra so I went with another one in my Road King. Lots of guys out there are chasing big horsepower numbers but typically those style cams end up losing bottom end torque which is no bueno on a big Harley motor.

I think you will be happy with your choice!
