So... Said there is no reason they shouldn't work. Bring it in, we'll take a look.

Says it has a general code, which was cleared, and then came back. Says they will update software, clear code, and flash the bike, should work... That will be $80 please....

It works. Codes gone, grips work. Level 1, 2, 3 show on the guage icon. Have a nice day... Sweet.

Litterally.... I mean litterally... Leaving the parking lot, turning on road, general alert comes back on. Try the grips, nada. Go back in. ... NOPE... You'll have to bring it back tomorrow. (they were closing)

So I go back tomorrow.

Nope... Gotta schedule service. Next Friday. I have something buggy going on in my hand controls. And that was going on before the grips. I'll let you guys know if I ever get a pair of working heated grips on my Street Bob.

If the site says they don’t fit your bike, it likely means they aren’t actually compatible. Returning them would be the safest move and it does sound like the parts counter gave you the wrong advice. You might want to consider a good pair of leather riding gloves instead they’re durable and offer solid comfort for riding.

We're way past all that. I'm trying to get them to work. When Harley makes model/parts changes, the paperwork is the last thing to get updated.

They are compatible. The new hand controls have the heated grip module wired. The guage is new and has heated grip indication integrated into it. The new heated grips are buttons of low/medium/high and that is what the icon shows, and what the service tech said worked. The only problem it seems right now is proper software installation, and what ever seems to be going on with my controls, which was going on before I put grips on.

So we will see Friday. If they can't get them working, after fixing what ever issue my controls DO have, then ya, I'll probably return them and go on with my buisness. But right now, I'm willing to find out for sure if we can put heated grips on new Street Bobs.

So I go Friday. Guy told me first thing in the morning and they will get to it... Well I was like an hour after they opened... "When I tell you 9, its 9". They cancelled me... I'm like you didn't take walk-ins over me in the last hour... My fault, but that really pissed me off the way he said it. He said nothing open for 2 weeks.... I took it thinking I was going to go some place else.

I was ordering parts, he comes to talk... Different tone, said if something opens he'll call... Then he says he looked at control modules... They are back ordered from HD till AUGUST. I said oh, so you can't even fix my bike if I dropped it off yesterday, and no need for me to be here today... Errrrrrrr... But

They are looking at other dealers. Who flippin knows when it will get fixed. Right now, I know my brake switch is not 100%. With faults left and right seems a control module. I am at least going to take it in 2 weeks to see if they can determine for certain. Hopefully I catch a break... Right now I need my faults to clear and my brake light to work... On my brand new bike. And then hopefully grips magically work.

Sorry you are having such difficulty. It is stressful when a new bike has problems.

In not even going to go into details of what a complete **** show this has become... But to answer the question... Yes, HEATED GRIPS WORK.... just not for me appearantly.

So from the last post... I get my bars to swap... Go to take hand controls off... Right side heated grip wire is crushed/severed. Not sure if that's the problem, pretty sure it's not helping. 😊

So I get bars swapped, and I splice wires to get them right so I can take it to service appt today. I start the bike when done... Grips work!

So take it to service to find out my other code issues on hand controls I had before I ever bought heated grips. I head out, grips don't work, codes are back. I get to dealer... I'm like wait... I turn bike off, back on... No code, grips work. But do they actually work... Yep, they get hot. THEY WORK!

So I'll skip the part where I almost catch charges with the service ******.... They tell me it's cause my spliced wires and they can't find a problem with that... I say all you have to do is unplug grips, and it's just like it came off the floor, and you need to find out why my controls have been throwing codes since I rode it home. Final answer... They can't find anything. They saw it only happens when riding, after they rode it... But they look, they rode it again 20 miles, and there are no codes. Fine... Ride it home... Code free. Check... Grips work. Who flippin knows. If it happens again, bring it back ... I will, to a different dealership. I'll never give that one another penny.

So I'll ride it and see. I still have to take right side off and solder a proper fix and make a proper harness. When I do, I'll take pics of the offending post. I saw it, and I was sure to route around, but in the end, it shifted and I crushed it. I'm not eating $400 and getting another pair.

At least for now, 25+ Softail can run heated grips regardless what ever old instructions say. With all my code issues, I can't say for sure if I needed my bike flashed... But don't be suprised at all if you do. Follow the directions... DO NOT turn on grips. You have to run bike for 5 minutes for software to install and then see if they work. Appearantly that's a thing. But I did do that and first guys said I did need a couple updates. And they did work then... Before I rode it home.

Enough of all the drama. I got my new harness built best I could. Soldered new wire in. Close to original. Now that I get it all it's pretty easy to make sure all wires are routed correct and safe. Here's a couple pics...

Bottom line is the new grips, besides just the simple pig tail to plug is, the grips them selves are much easier to change. They lock into control, just slide right on. No throttle tube to mess with, stick down left side... Slide on lone, locked in place.

So if you are worried about Softails, don't be. Any new styles with pig tail and new controls will work. At worst, you will need a flash, and for now, I think that's likely. But ya, right now, product compatability info is just not updated.
