i just purchased the new 2024 Road Glide with the new infotainment system. Should the carplay icon light up when turning on the main screen ?? The dealer told me I need to have the software installed by them to access that. But from what I see on Youtube, everyone else has it already. I know it's meant to be used with a head set, but I've seen the hacks to bypass that.
The IFCU suports wireless Carplay. No need to plug the phone in.
In order to access Carplay you must have a headset with a microphone paired to the system along with your phone. Without this setup, the icon will remain greyed out. What headset/microphone are you using? Does it show up as paired in the Device Manager?
There is no extra software to install. The IFCU has everything required to run Carplay either wired or wireless.
I don't use one, but I've seen the Maedhawk trick on Youtube. The Maedhawk has a built in microphone which satisfies the requirement for Carplay. Strange that it's not working... All I can think of is:
Making sure the Maedhawk is paired as rider and not passenger.
Make sure your phone and the Maedhawk aren't paired with each other. If they are, choose 'forget this device' for the Maedhawk in your phone's Bluetooth settings.
And another thing to try is to tap the Carplay icon on the screen even though it's greyed out. This will sometimes activate Carplay. It could also cause a message to be generated that might help narrow down your problem
