1.GET a HD service manual!
2. Removethe bottom screw. Take the trim ring off. Remove the 8 screws holding the headlight assembly in(not the headlight aiming screws!). Depending on what bike youre working on, the instructions differ at this point. Refer to Number 1

The outer ring is a friction fit as well as havin' a retainin' screw. Grasp firmly from the area by the removed screw, pull out firmly. 'Bout the time yer skeered 'bout bendin' it, it'll come free.

Default RE: Headlight, Nacelle Removal: EASY when you know how.

I have a manual and I had to take off the headlight Nacelle. Its not rocket science, but if you haven't seen the friction clip in the top of the trim ring,it is amystery.

How to remove the Headlight Nacelle headlight trim ring on a '02 ROad King FLHR

Remove the phillips on the bottom center of the Headlight trim ring/ bezel.
Pull the bezel straight up- dont rotate it- dont swing it out away from the headlight- pull straight up toward the ceiling. THe ring has a spring clip male piece that slides intoa femaleslot on the HL bucket. It does not come out easy but apply some umph and it will come. If you break it, you could probably make one from a piece of welding rod.

THen, as the manual says, loosen the two nuts on the top of the nacell. You dont have to take them out but loosen them to allow some clearance.

To remove the riser cover (after taking out the 2 phillips under the steering lock lock/ unlock bezel (pry the bexel out with your finger nail) you have to split the (remove it). Its only a 5 minute job. To split/ remove the nacelle (after the 4 acorn nuts are removed and the highway light bar is sitting on the (well protected) fender, you have to raise the riser cover high enough for the nacelle top bosses to clear- this is done by loosening the rear bolt you can see from the front of the nacelle.

I only posted this because the manual did not show the clip, and it took me a whiloe to discover how to do it.

Peace,

KB
