Default Exhaust Flange Bolts on rear jug stripped

got an 09 1200n lost the exhaust flange nuts while riding so i replaced the nuts but they would not get tight as one of the bolts seem to be stripped and the nut would not tighten. what all is involved in putting in the new bolts. The exhaust is still stock so i am hoping the warranty will cover this. any info would be great

Man that sucks dude!, let us know how it turns out.
I had a simmilar experience recently, put on new pipes and I know I torqued the bolts down, went for a quick ride and when i got back the bolts were gone.
Luckily I found them and was able to put them back on with some blue locktite
They havent come off since.
Use some locktite when you get the head bolts replaced, but use the blue kind and you shouldnt have a prob with them coming off again.

Your bike is still under warranty, try that route first. If you don't have a lot of miles, you might be able to remove the old ones with vice grip pliers. Mine were seized (80,000 miles) and one broke off. I had to remove the head and drill it out.

appreciate the info. the bike has 9500 miles and i was about to put a new exhaust on it too. Still cant believe something so simple just to tighten a nut turned into this

They only need 12 INCH/pound of torque. That's finger tight+ 1/2 - 1 turn.

I had a similar problem when I loosened them to install my V&H straight shots - did`nt tighten enough and one nut came off - bought a new one and used the BLUE Loc tite as per the above post - so far so good - mine did not strip. Good luck fixing it.

Go to your local auto parts store and ask for pinch nuts. They will not loosen off.

I've been through several different remedies to try and stop exhaust flange nuts from coming loose.
First of all, Blue Loctite really doesn't work here, the stud temperatures exceed the published melting point of Blue Loctite.

The one solution I've found if you want to be sure they're not going to loosen, is to use ARP aircraft nuts. These are sometimes referred to as Jet or Kay nuts. You can order them (5/16-24 12pt) nuts from Jegs.com. These nuts have elliptical threads which makes them self-locking. The second advantage of these nuts is it's design. The socket size required for the nut is smaller than what would be required for a standard 5/16 nut, which means easier clearance between the socket and cylinder fins.

You can find them HERE - Not cheap, but they damn sure won't come loose.

I'm always paranoid about those things falling off since I upgraded the exhaust. I check them about every 500 miles just to make sure they are still tight.

I ordered 4 of the Aircraft nuts in the link (Thanks cHarley).

Maybe I can rest a little easier knowing they're on there.

Man that is a PITA. I posted this some time ago, but will do it again. If you tighten the nuts too tight, you could warp the flange, and bend the ends in and the flange will not be able to come off. I bought a couple sets of these and tried them on my bike. That was in 2005, they have never come loose, and are still on there. I'm sold on them. Here is a picture and a link to where I got them. I hope this helps some of you out.
