I have a 05 EG with stock head unit. I'm upgrading the front speakers, adding an amp and rear speakers in the lids. My ? Is how do I add rear speakers with no rear speaker output from the head unit?
I'm guessing I need to splice the front speakers into the input on the amp for the rear?
Also now that I'm getting things hooked up I notice my handle bar control that changes the modes between radio,cd,aux has stopped working? Volume side works fine? Any ideas?
your stock head unit is already equipped with active rear outputs on the 35 pin connector. You have a couple of options to get to them
1. build your own connector to allow connectivity to pins 1,2,24,25
2. buy a connector like this.
3. get the pins you need for the connector from HD. Solder and shrink warp the pins and plug them into connector on the back of the radio
if you want the fader to work, you'll need to have that flashed by HD. takes 5 minutes and they charge you about $40.
You have the radiosound head unit maybe? It's been a while and I don't remember if the Non-CB headunits on those had the 2nd big harness connector on the back. Assuming it does, the Ultra connector on the back of it is a 23-pin connector, not the 35-pin that the HK head units have. Either way, it's pretty easy to fab up your own harness connector to do this:
(4) 72381-98 socket pins $2
(1) 72383-98GY 23-pin connector housing $20
Pins you need (the connector has labels on the ends of rows so you can figure out which is which):
