Default Speaker Recomendations

My (what I think are stock) front speakers on my 2007 Street Glide are not doing the job for me. I only listed to MP3s via of my iPhone which doubles as my GPS.

I have to crank it up to get any descent volume and it still is not very loud and not very good.

I want to replace the front speakers and I have recently added a tour pack and just order some Hog Tunes rear enclosurers. I need to order speakers for them as well.

What will I need in the way of wiring the rear speakers to the head unit?

Any suggestions on replacement speakers, I assume they need to be 2 omhs. Not looking for the top of the line, just something better than the stock speakers.

not much really. You'll need to have your dealer activate the fader for you if you want the ability to fade front to rear. If you don't then you simply need the following parts.

(1) 72384-06BK - 35 Pin Socket Housing
(4) 72381-98 - Terminal Pin

Do not use anything larger than 18ga wire as you'll have a hard time inserting into the socket housing.
you want to put your speaker wires connected to the (4) terminal pins above into cavities 1,2,24,25 on the socket housing.

Pin 1 - Right rear +
Pin 2 - Left rear +
Pin 24 - Right rear -
Pin 25 - Left rear -

Snap the housing closed and run speaker wires to the rear for your pods.

What's your budget?

You can spend $$$$, or go $. For speakers, keeping the stock HU i think most will recommend the Polk MM651's. 2.7ohm, so close match. You'll really want an amp so maybe look at getting one sooner?

You could do the speakers and then amp them if that doesn't suffice. UN will recommend the SoundSolutions 520D amp - but it has a potential to interfere with FM reception - maybe not an issue for you.

Take a look at a couple of the threads - tons of options!

HTH - GL!

Try http://www.sonicelectronix.com/ I got my fronts from them. I changed out my radio for a Kenwood so I'm using aftermarket speakers but I believe they have 2ohm stuff as well. Their shipping was quick and returns even easier. You can also try www.crutchfield.com I have brought from both but sonic is better price and crutch has the best customer support. Hope this helps.
JL Audio front and Infinity Kappa rear.

really what I'd recommend since you seem unsure what you need to do other than clarity at this point is simply change the speakers first. Polk MM651 speakers are a great candidate for this as they're 2.7 ohm speakers as sl33py pointed out and match to the impedance of the stock head unit. Change/add the speakers first then bild from there if you need more.

For the fairing, you'll need a set of 6.5" adapter rings to fit the larger speakers in the 5.25" holes. The rear pods, the Polk MM651 speakers should drop right in the HT pods. If not I recall reading where one forum member had to take a dremel tool to kinda file out the cutout a tad bit. I would put 6.5" back there since you can as it makes a big difference up from 5.25".

Wrap the fairing speakers with polyfil to look like a white cotton ball. The rear pods, only line the inside of the pod with the polyfil

Thanks for all the input, IF I was to change out the radio, will I loose my thumb controls?

if you change out the head unit and not install an amp then a whole different direction needs to take place as far as speakers are concerned.

1.) an aftermarket head unit will not support 2 ohm speakers (99.8% of them)
2.) changing out the head unit and maintaining handlebar controls requires the use of either a hawg-wired or Biketronics control module. They run about $220
