Ok, so I'm fairly new to the forum, HD, and audio upgrade ideas. I've read a lot on this forum and found so much information. So, first of all thanks to all posters for helping to educate me.
I have a 2012 Street Glide. I'd like to do an audio upgrade. I'd like improved sound and volume on a reasonable budget. Sort of a "most bang for my buck" scenario.
I'm not sure what the long term audio masterplan is at this point, so will probably do a 2-channel upgrade.
One concern is "waterproofness" or how well a system
(in particular speakers and a possible head unit) would last when exposed to the elements.
Based on my research on the forum, I've sort of shortlisted the stuff.
Upgrade component list would include: 1. A kit

Bang for your buck and easy install is...HK head unit, Fosgate PBR300X2, Velcro it to the top of your head unit, Infinity 62.11 speakers, easternpc adaptors. I found this to be well worth the money invested especially if u are looking to keep FM reception.
I just completed an upgrade and had been looking at the same RF kit. It wasn't highly recommended as it sticks with 5 1/4" speakers and while matched to the speakers the amp is a little under powered. Based on a ton of good reviews I went with the 300X2 and a set of pre-production issue Polk 651's that Gannicus helped me out with and couldn't be more satisfied with the setup. The Infinities also come highly recommended. The only reason I didn't go with them was I wanted something not quite as bright as the Infinities but that was for personal preference.
They resident experts (and they are REALLY good) are going to recommend the PBR300X2 amp and the Kappa 62.11i speakers as your go to bang for buck setup.
Cerwin Vega B4 is a class D and there is always the possibility you will lose FM radio. Some guys do and some guys don't. If you don't mind losing FM. Very good amp with 2 ohm speakers (Polks) or (Infinity's) As dirtracin and Haze said best "Bang for the buck" is going to be the Rockford Fosgate PBR300X2 with the Polk or Infinity speakers. Little Mike just finished his X2/Polk set up and is very pleased with the results. Just depends on your budget sir.
Thanks all for your responses. Based on them I feel good going with the pbr300x2 (also because I'd like to keep FM), and Polk MM651 ( for less bright) combo. And polyfil!
My stupid questions:
1. Are the Polks installed behind the factory speaker grilles (cloth)?
2. Which mounting plate (I saw that RF recommends a side mount, but lots of members mount to top of radio)
3. I think I know the answer to this but any thoughts on a head unit, or should I stick with the HK until I decide if I am adding rear speakers?
Thanks again to all for all the help on this and all the other threads.

Reason: added polyfil!

1. Yes
2. Mount the X2 on top of the radio with Industrial Velcro.
3. Stick with the HK until you decide.
Note* You will need 6.5 arc audio adapter rings for your speakers and a wiring Kit.

Not trying to derail your decision but I thought I read in another thread that they were experiencing reliability issues with the Polks?
