Default 2014 SGS boom upgrade--looking for more volume

Okay, I have a 2014 Street Glide Special. I did the Boom audio upgrade with saddle bag speakers and have complained since installation that I only gained clarity, and not real any volume. What are my options now? My dealership is wanting another $1600 to upgrade to the Boom II (not happening). P

I thought I could go wth a Rokker 500 watt amp, but have been informed that my Boom speakers would have a limited lifespan unless we turned the amp down. John has suggested the 360 watt four channel amp as a plug and play upgrade, but I'm unsure as to if I would actually gain much volume over the stock amp.

What else is there? Is the J&M 360 watt amp a good choice over the Boom I ? I really don't want to spend more than $800 to upgrade the stereo ( again) so I welcome any and all thoughts.

Thanks !

Any real power you put to those speakers is going to significantly shorten their life span, possibly to zero. They are most commonly referred to around here as the KaBoom speakers. If I had 8 bills to spend I'd install a Biketronics BT4180 amp. Lifetime hassle free warranty that you aren't going to get....elsewhere. A set of Infinity Kappa 62.11i for the fairing and, if you've got the HD bags that take a 5x7, a set of the Infinity 682.9cf for the bags. There are other combinations that others have run or are running with great results and I'm sure they will chime in shortly. In regards to your initial route I'd say do your homework! Asking lots of questions here and using the search feature to read up on the different options is a really good idea.

Skepticism is always good as it forces us to ask questions. Ever wonder why with the money Harley charges for the Boom system they don't provide any numbers on the amp output or how many watts the speakers can handle? When doing the upgrade they re-flash the headunit which lowers it's output. They then rely on an amp to take a weakened signal and amplify it to an acceptable level at 70 mph. Seems counterproductive. If you Google Power Handling RMS of Harley Boom Speakers you'll find results that show the system is 4x75 watts for a total of 300 and I'd say those numbers are inflated. Now ask yourself why someone would recommend a 360 watt amp for speakers that won't handle that power for very long...unless of course they had a vested interest in selling you some speakers down the road because the recommendation they made blew your Boom speakers.

Mike is absolutely correct in regard to the boom system. Stage 1,2,3 doesn't matter. Just not very good speakers. Stage 2 is just another marketing ploy by Harley Davidson to sell their Boom system. As Mike said Harley Davidson is very vague on their specs and it's difficult to know the power handling capabilities of the Boom speakers. If you want to be ONE AND DONE. Sell all the Boom stuff (if you can) Invest in Biketronics BT4180 Amp and their 7.1 speakers for the 14-15 models in the fairing.

Purchase these speakers for your lids:

These speakers are waterproof with a lifetime guarantee and if you call Bill directly at Biketronics and tell him you are a forum member he will give you a great deal on your amp and speakers. This system will give you the volume and clarity you are looking for.

Although you don't see their advertisements everywhere, you can't beat Biketronics IMO. Lifetime warranty, great product, and the best customer service I have ever dealt with in any industry. Amazingly they make their amps IN THE USA with as many U.S. made components that can be sourced. That also means something to me.
Be patient and read up. Plenty of good advice here and you shouldn't have to break the bank to have a great sounding system.

Does Biketronics offer a 4 speaker kit with amp option for the 2014 and newer bikes? I looked on their website and didn't see anything. I'd love to pump up the system in my CVO, but I'm not sure which direction to go. When I started reading about the Stage II system, I thought maybe I'd buy the new speakers and the additional amp. If someone else has something better for similar or less money, I might be inclined to go that direction. One thing is for sure, I wish there was somewhere I could go to hear some of these systems.

They have the 2 speaker and amp packages shown. Now I don't want to speak absolutely for Bill at BT but I'm sure if you gave him a call he would be happy to help get you set up. Basically while they haven't assembled a 4 speaker package it would only be a matter of adding two additional speakers and upgrading to the 4180. Keep in mind, if you haven't already searched through the vendor pages, BT offers a discount to forum members.

+1 The BT4180 and two additional speakers. Lids or pods. The BT2180 is a powerful little amp and you can actually run 4 (4ohm) speakers off the 2180 with a good amount of power.
