Head Unit upgrade
For those of you who have swapped out your H/U, how difficult is the display to read during the day compared to the stock unit with a Sony unit? I was looking at getting one through Biketronics but not sure how visible it would be.
I couldn't resist.
Looking at the screen shouldnt be at the top importance when picking a headunit. First should which units going to get you the best performance and features as possible for your application. Then the then the type of warranty offered from one to the other. When looking at the sony units, The GS models offer 3 year manufacture warranty vs 1 year warranty from others like the Sony MEX-M70BT Marine. The MEX-GS610 (non HD radio) MEX-GS810( HD radio).
Sony MEX-M70BT Marine - $199.99
(pros) -coated circuit board, uv protection, 5v preouts
(cons) 1 year warranty, price( not worth $20 more for less warranty
Sony MEX-GS610BT - $179.99
(pros) - same performance as MEX-M70BT PLUS 3 year warranty
(cons) no water protection.
Sony MEX-GS810BT - $229.99
(pros) same performance as others models above, 3 yr warranty
and HD radio tuner.
(cons) $50 more then the 610 model just to have a HD tuner

I'm looking at the volume and the EQ graphic that moves to the beat!! It looks cool

Now the independent front and rear gains and crossover on the 998 is pretty damn sweet in terms of features. Have no idea about the warrant?!?
I have a Kenwood KMR-558BT. The display was hard to read no matter what color I changed it to. I finally realized that it was the reflection of the tank dash that was making it hard to see. I took some flat black sticker vinyl and put a piece on the dash and it helped a lot.
