Ok, I am getting the reckless fairing for my RK with 6x9 opening for supplier. I am buying the components for it. SS PN4.520 amp, Infinity head unit, Polk mm691 speakers, and an antenna. My questions for you riders with more experience than me are, is this a good combination? What do the wiring disconnects look like for the heavy gauge amp wires when fairing is removed?. What holds the amp to the infinity head unit? It looks small. I am really looking for some input here from people that have worked with these reckless fairings. I am not to new to stereo installs, I just have never done a bike. Thanks guys!
If your only gonna run 2 speakers. I like the sound quality from a Cerwin B2 over the PN4. For either you'll need to run power back to the battery and if attach it to the top of the radio with Velcro.
Don't know enough about infinity HU to comment on them. I'd rather a Sony or Kenwood.
Help is on the way Sir! Since you are running the infinity head unit, You might as well go with infinity speakers in your face. I assume since you are going to run the sound stream 520.D you are going to expand your system in the future? The sound stream is a four channel amp and all you need is two for the 6x9's. As HAZE said. Industrial Velcro works wonders securing the amp to the radio. I also agree that the Cerwin Vega B2 is the way to go if you are only going to run the 6x9's. My suggestion for the speakers up front are the Infinity 693.9i. Plenty clarity and plenty bass. Run 8 gauge power and ground. Run 16 ga. wire for your speakers. If you are going to run lids then Get the Cerwin Vega B4 and the same infinity's for the lids.
The Infinity head unit that Reckless sells is a special marine setup, not like regular radios. It's only about 2 inches deep, so there is no way to mount an amp on top. You'll need to make some sort of bracket to attach the amp, either to the back of the Infinity or to the inner fairing.
That's what I was thinking. Fabrication is easy for me. I hope the headunit is mounted well, just not tabs like a metal din on head units. I will figure that out. I was playing with ordering a loaded unit from reckless. I am positive to build my own. I am not sure about 6x9 speakers because of the depth of them and the fairing being shallow. So some input on what works will help. I am inpatient so if I order the empty fairing I will want all the components at home so the day it comes in I will I it together. I hate to get it and wait for a small part. Thanks for the reply
You should call Reckless and ask how much room there is for 6x9s, that will help narrow down your choices. Here is the Infinity owners manual showing how it mounts, etc.
