mostly because we are talking about a set of $1000 components, and i don't even believe that site is an authorized dealer to start with, so they will cost even more authorized. if you were selling something for $1000 a pop wouldn't you want to ensure they were installed correctly so as not to replace them due to user/installer error? if the shop puts a screwdriver through the cone they eat the cost, not the manufacturer. there are lots of people with more money than sense... these really need to be aimed and tuned correctly, and i have spent weeks tuning a car to get it all dialed in right. to some it's overkill, to others like me it's a joy take a look at this pricing list. for as much of an audiophile/audioholic as i am i still can't justify the esotar2 series http://www.fhrxstudios.com.au/pdfs/d..._pricelist.pdf
if you really want to play with them you can find sets and pieces used on some car audio forums. a full set of used comps (2 woofers, 2 tweets, 2 xovers) can be had for the $500-600 range in great shape, less if they are the older versions (old versions are numbered 100, 160, 170...newer are 102, 162, 172, ect.). generally the older stuff sells for around $100 per piece, sometimes less. i happen to have a lot of these used in the shop. i tend to horde car audio
