Default Shortie antenna

I am about to receive a new '15 SGS. Just wondering if anybody has noticed a decrease in reception when they went to a shorter antenna please? I already don't like the looks of the tall stock one and I don't even had the bike yet.

I put an antenna from a 2012 on mine, cut it short, and lost lots of reception.

As an electronics guy, I can tell you that every antenna is cut to a specific length, for a specific range of frequencies. There is frequently a hidden coil of some type at the base of a vertical antenna, and it is also specific to the intended frequency range. If you cut the whip shorter, you will render the antenna useless.

To add on to the OP's question, I'm about to replace the stock antenna on my RGS with the hidden antenna that goes in the fairing. Anyone have any before and after opinions on the hidden antenna?

The reason I went with the shorty is that the fairing mounted J&M non powered I bought was crap. Worse reception than the shorty. I cut the antenna at the suggestion of the dealer (yeah, I know.....) so guess I need to buy one already shortened by factory or designed that way.
