Default Speaker question

Would it be ok to use JL audio 6.5 4 ohm speakers in my fairing with the stock HU ? 2004 ultra, tour pac deleted. I would like to just bolt these in and be done with it if they will work ok.

Sitting still maybe, but moving down the road no, not without an amp.

Don't do it bro!!! Those speakers are too nice not to set up properly. As Bert said an amp is must have and with those speakers an aftermarket HU wouldn't hurt.

I would recommend an amp as they will be under powered and distort when you put the volume up high in addition to not getting the increased volume you are probably looking for. The added cost of JL speakers isn't worth it w/o an amp paired to it IMO.

Default Amp

What would be an inexpensive amp to drive the jl's. Only need a two channel. I don't plan on ever adding any other speakers. I do want to keep my fm.

Default JL amp

I most likely will use a JL amp. The xd200 seems like a good choice as it's 7 by 7 ish, 2 inches thick . My son works at a local car audio/wheel shop and JL is their featured brand. I get what I need at cost but I'll still do it as cheap as I can and get a good result. If there is a flaw in my plan, please let me know.

A cheaper smaller option if you like JL would be the JL HX280/4 running the channels bridged to 2 chanels per speaker.

I think the amp you are referring to is the XD200/2v2 which is 75 w RMS x 2. Your best bang for the buck option in the JL line is going to be the JL HX280/4. It's smaller, cheaper and you can bridge it down to two channels for 140 w RMS per speaker. Match made in heaven for your speakers.
