Default Can I run metal HD grills with STOCK speakers ?

I wanted to replace my stock rear speaker 'cloth grills' (2015 Ultra Limited) with the metal HD grills (76000324), just to protect the speakers from luggage, passenger contact, etc.

But as I look closer at the grills and the instructions for kits (76000318) they are part of, I wonder if my stock speakers (paper cones or whatever they are called) will not tolerate the additional exposure to water due to the metal
grill ? Sounds like the speakers in the kit are maybe more weather/water tolerant than stock ?

Maybe I can incorporate the cloth from the existing grill with the metal grill, too ?

There will be no problems using the metal grills as the stock speakers are a poly material
