Starting to see the value in the biketronics kit. I'm all for saving a few bucks but not at the expense of hacking up a new bike or being disappointed with the results.

You are correct, do it once and be done. Biketronics has the best bang for the buck quality plug & play system out there. And with a lifetime warranty, save the old parts and reinstall them if you sell the bike.

There is nothing wrong with the Hogtunes equipment. Its certainly not concert hall quality but at 75mph nothing is. if you want a set up that's simple, plug and play, and decent bang for your buck, Hogtunes works. I'd recommend that you try just the speakers first - they may be all you need. You can always add the amp later.
FYI, on my 15 SG, I'm running just the fairing speakers and there is a big improvement over stock.

I 100% disagree! I removed the hogtunes from my 09. They never sounded good! Nor could you hardly hear them at 55mph. You say add an amp later...better add it now if you even want to hear it at all...for the mone you can do much better...my $.02

Don't know much about Hogtunes but their 6x9 speakers came with my bag lids and the speakers went in the trash in less than a week. Just did not sound good at all to me. Others may like the sound they deliver but I just could not stomach it.
The actual Hogtunes lids were very nice though.

Agreed, I had a set of HT speakers in the fairing with no amp and they were no better than stock. Had a buddy that thought he had stock speakers and when he opened up the fairing he found HT's.

Yeah I started with Hogtunes the original ones with a think it was 32 rms a channel, a little better than stock. Back in 08 I think it was, not as many choices back then. Hey I still got the speakers and amp if any body wants them, I'll sell them CHEAP...lol.

I'm not looking for studio quality sound, just like to have more bass and clearer sound without distortion at speed.
I've seen posts of bikes with kappas and fosgate amps that seem reasonable, are they worth a look?
If you want to install it yourself, Biketronics is super easy....

LET ME WARN you sir, take the advice of those on this forum! Because 450 now,,, and you not being happy ,, with another 700 later to have a great system,, is not cost effective!

Like Mike I started out with Hog tunes as well way back in 06 then UPGRADED to JM I thought. . .lol. Lids, lowers, amps the whole nine. I think I had about $3000 in both systems. Those two systems is what motivated me to get deep into Bike audio. I was determined NOT to live with those two systems!!! I'm still having nightmares to this very day! LOL!!!
