Went to a bike meet today and heard a guy with a 10" sub on his bike. Not a pro sound woofer, but a true 60hz and down sub. It sounded like ****. The bags rattled like one of those cars you hear in the hood with the trunk buzzing. It sounded good at about half volume in the parking lot. Then he fired the bike up and had to turn the stereo up over the pipes, that's when it started rattling and sounding like ****. Couldn't hear any bass, just rattling. I'm all in on some 6x9 now, had a notion to put sub(s) in, no more.
Thanks for getting me back on track. I've spent most of this winter season planning my next move as far as a system up grade. A sub in my bags was going to be next. But the only real encouragement was from the guys at the car audio shop. Most on here that I have talked to have had reservations and now your report confirms that I want to stay with my Kappas (well maybe a second set and a new amp.)
Well I'm going to go against the wind on this one. No different then I went against the grain putting in Pro Audio on the SG. I've heard some of the bikes that had subs in them that sound good even at higher volumes without all the rattle and some not so much. I'm actually taking the leap as we speak with the sub. Want to see what my Pro Audio set up and the Diamond Audio sub do paired up.

Good Luck Bro! When you come back from the dark side we'll be here waiting for you! lol

LOL!! Highly unlikely bro. When I first did the Pro Audio I was told I was crazy and it wouldn't work or sound good. I have always been one that pushed the envelope on things. Now not a new concept but I think the sub will actually work with the Pro Audio setup. But it will have to be done right. Just slapping in a sub isn't going to work, so we agree there. Plus my SG isn't my road bike so I can experiment with it.

Good point. Make sure you keep us posted on your progress. Good or bad. As always we need video or it never happened.

LOL!! Oh no doubt on the video. Trust me I have always been on the fence on the sub install. For the very same reasons that was mentioned before. But I have seen where some actually done right sounded great. I have a good feeling about pairing with the Pro Audio setup.
I'm installing a second amp but I'm still only doing 4 speakers, component set in the fairing (front) and coax set in lowers (rear), this way I can run 200w to each set
Planning on PA style with horns in the fairing (will use 4 channel amp that is now bridged) and 2 channel for lowers.
IF I ever decide to do lids, I'll be giving up a bag for an amp to run everything.
I used a soundstream stealth 1200.4 in fairing and 4 2ohm ds18 speakers for my upper and lower fairings,
In my bags I have a sam500d sundown amp powering 2 - sa6.5 subwoofers and it sounds awesome 80mph and parking lots, in about a week I'll have my triple 6.5 lids painted and I'll have 6 more ds18 4ohm speakers powered by ds18 900.6 amp, about 150watts going to all ds18 speakers and 200 watts per subwoofer

Just curious, have you heard or tried anything other than DS18? Sooooo much better to be had.

I have, and I'm sure there is better out there. Not that I'm on a budget, but just have car audio friends that are authorized dealers for certain brands and just trying to get the best bang for the buck. But also leaning more towards the economy side, since everything else for harley davidson is expensive lol

please tell me your saddlebags are sealed. So as to not interfere with the new triple 6 5 lids. Also, you are WAY underpowered on every speaker.
