I got a Metra 99-9600 HD 1996 - 13 Install Kit. Also got a Sony mex-GS610BT HU... Went to install it today. Install Kit seems to fit the fairing fine, but the HU is to big for the opening in the Install Kit... I thought these things were a universal size, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Do I need to go with a specific Install kit for this HU, or go with a different HU that fits the install kit?

Have you taken the outer case off of the radio? The radio should've came with a tool to slide in between the case and the radio to let the case slide over the lock tab.

J...what's up brother. Welcome back to the audio addiction.
The radio should slide right in from the back, but as Bates said....you gotta pull off the outer sleeve and also the face trim. Radio needs to be bare and it will go in from the back of the kit. The face place you can then mount from the front.

yo.... I thought something happened to you. :-) I PM'ed ya a couple times but never heard back. LOL... GOT IT!!! Thx guys...
I got my inner fairing painted. Got it back this weekend. Got the spun aluminum gauges in it, now putting my new Sony in it. going to have to wait till winter is over to go for a ride, but this thing is looking sweet. Once I check the FM stuff, then I am ordering the Amp Speakers.
Man my bad, I was on vacation with limited internet and the mailbox got full quick.
I'm back, hit me up if you get stuck. That should go in with no problem --- but I'm telling you man, you're gonna want an amp in speakers in that sucker!

No worries, just glad nothing was wrong...!
Oh, I know, but with the luck I had last time, I just wanted to go a piece at a time. The install kit and Sony were a Christmas gift from the wife off your suggestions. That was the one piece I didn't swap if you recall last year. Given I returned all the BT stuff once, I wanted to be 100% I got the FM crap fixed with this new HU and then I will order the Amp\Speakers. I had some Hog Tunes speakers till laying around, so for now I put them in over the OEM ones... It will be good for just testing the signal issues... Can't wait for winter to end...!
