ha! Kesan, that's the guy that makes the waterproof cover in his kit
Yea I didn't look into it any further. Just happen to see on FB awhile ago as it pertained to what the OP was asking about. As for me like most I'm just going to make the best of the HD headunit placed there. I would suspect that this custom job cost a pretty penny to do. I've already dropped enough in to my SG. My Limited is my road bike so not much mods going on that one, LOL!
I went with the kenwood marine radio. Pushing the biketronics amp and 7.1 speakers with it. Still have my controls via the metra kit and oil pressure monitoring. It's a great difference over the stock hu. The ability to have full eq adjustments alone is worth losing the crappy hd navigation and other headaches.
Oh don't get me wrong, the Nav is no Garmin but personally find more value in the Nav and other functions than I do an EQ at this juncture. Someone will soon break the code regarding a big screen product with full functionality at a reasonable price so I'm gonna sit on the bench till then.
Keep ur Boom 6.5 handy for resale as that is a huge selling point for a lot of folks.
I sold that 6.5 radio on ebay for 200. Its not worth a ****. All everyone is doing is putting a bandaid on that radio. Get a new hu, and u will be surprised at how much clearer and cleaner the music sounds.
Alright, welcome to "LL's Opnion Time" gentlemen, please buckle up and remember, most of this is based on my opinion and personal feelings (which from what I understand, won't buy you a cheap cup of coffee in the dirtiest of back road diners).
The double din install above with the nice bezel, I've talked to the guy who does those via FB. It's a lighted bezel that cleans up a custom double din radio install. There are some different options too since they're hand made.
The Metra kit looks decent, same one I have in the garage pending install. The BT one looks clean too, but while pretty useless, the extra display on the Metra kit looks better than a big blank spot under the radio.
I went back and forth on if I wanted to lose all the functions of the factory unit...then realized there are no worthwhile functions of the factory unit. None. Nav? I'll throw a quick bar-mount for my phone if I'm lost, or purchase a double din nav unit if it's that important. The line levelers do a great job of straightening out the Boom dsp crap, but it's not a 100% fix to my ears, I've still heard much better sound from aftermarket units. Add in the fine tuning that some of the aftermarket head units offer, plus a host of other functions, I think it makes sense. Sense for me, my disclaimer is that: I'm obsessed with my audio system...enough that I made it my living.
Bunker probably has good info. There's NO WAY companies aren't working on a replacement, my bet would be multiple. I can tell you this market is gaining speed, fast. It's not just motorcycles either, powersports audio is becoming a big thing in general. It's good for us, means we have more offerings to choose from! I believe things are going to get really interesting over the next few years.
Stay tuned to my head unit replacement, a 9+ inch touch screen is going to look interesting hahaha Again, not going to be permanent, but $130 just to try it out? Totally worth it!

It's actually worth $1849.95.
Not willing to take that hit on a resale as it it part of the SGS package and many folks that are not audiophiles have this Boom 6.5 pretty damn high on their priority list.
Decided to put my cash into speakers and thus far am pretty pleased with my sound. It's all about the speakers!!!!!
Am very interested in a Garmin replacement with full functionality and a good HU, but until then, it all good.

Like the boom audio stuff is worth $2500. Haha. All in good fun.
Your system does sound good though. For sure.

Totally in good fun Brotha!!! It's great to have these discussions so we can all consider the options that are available, to include the risk v rewards.
Yes, the Boom sucks!!! And I cannot tell you how much time I spent on researching replacement HUs. Have a couple of riding pals that work for the MOCO in sales and they hammered me hard about leaving the HU alone. Basically tossed a coin and left it alone, for now. But the more I get addicted to this audio stuff the closer I get to mixing it up w the HU so I could flip on this topic at any time.
All good stuff Brotha and never a bad answer in this audio world as the canvas is perpetually blank. Plus your system kills it and that trumps all!!!!!
Have a great week!!
