Default Audio Project step-by-step (living thread)

First, I want to thank everyone (too many to name) that have given me guidance up to this point. I knew absolutely nothing about bike audio. Because I see a lot of posts from rookies like me, I thought I'd do a living thread showing my progress, challenges and photos as I work through this project. I'll answer questions as often as I can. So here we go!

I own a factory stock 2015 Street Glide Special. With the generous help of members of this forum, I made some difficult decisions and purchased the below equipment:

* Infinity Kappa 693.11I, 220 Watt, 6x9's from Mobile Soundworks for $169.95 (no shipping)

* Infinity Kappa 62.11I, 150 Watt, 6.5 inch from Amazon for $116.95 (with S&H)

* Soundstream PN4.1000D, 1,000 Watt, 4-Channel Amp from Newegg.com for $142.99 (no shipping and handling)

* Hogtunes speaker lids from thefactorymatch.com for $779.99 (matched paint)

* Two Biketronics line levelers (BT 355's) for $149.90 (no S&H)

* Cycle Sounds Perforated speaker grills for $39.95

* Cycle Sounds Rear speaker wiring kit with quick disconnects for $35.96

* Cycle Sounds amplifier power harness kit for $35.96

* Cycle Sounds amplifier/speaker connection kit for $33.26

* J&M Amp Tray for $139 (I think)

Total of $1,643.91

Decisions:

Speakers: I read tons of information on this forum, no really....tons! While there were other good reviews, most people pointed to the Kappas as a good choice and worth the money.

Amp: I read a lot of positive information on this forum about the SS PN4.1000D and saw quite a few recommendations. While a common complaint was that it was a challenge to fit it into the Rushmore fairing, most said the amp tray fixed this issue. Some Amazon reviews weren't real good for this amp....still 4 stars though.

Speaker Lids: Everyone gave rave reviews for these lids. I was a little worried about color match because my bike is Morrocan Gold, but they arrived well packaged and matched perfect! It took me four weeks to get them in the mail, but I expected that.

Flash: Tomorrow, I'm off to the local dealership to get the flash...Ultra with rear pods and no amp. Too many details to talk about regarding the flash discussion. Some dealerships apparently won't charge you, but mine already mentioned it would cost about $50....heck, they kept pushing me off and didn't seem too interested in doing the flash. Gotta love that!

Well, that's it for now....I'll post again either this weekend or next week.

Might check with Bill at Biketronics on the flash since you have the BT line levelers.

Nice write up.
I have been thinking about getting a set of lids but every time I see the $$$ they want I begin to get sick.

You might want to think about getting fairing speaker brackets from Biketronics or modify your pods as those Kappa 62.11 like to breathe and move some air.
I couldn't get the sound I was looking for with the pods and had to have the crossover on the amp set about 1 o'clock to keep them from chocking off in the pods. I tried pollyfill , 2 inch port hole in the back of the pods then I said hell with it and went to the extreme and removed the whole rear of the pod.That is were my fronts are now just with the front half of the pods to mount the speakers.The bass hits hard enough now out of the front I can feel it in the bars at 50+mph.

Also the amp like it with 2vac going to it from the line levelers.

Good luck with the install and enjoy the new tunes

I think he is going to get HU flashed for a 4 channel set up with no amp like the ultras and limited to activate the rear channels.
SGS is only front channels

Yeah, I'm planning to have the flash to activate the rear pods. On another post, someone recommended the Ultra flash with rear pods and no amp.

That's good information and will definitely be an option that I'll keep in mind. One thing I have found throughout the audio forum that seems to be a constant is that sound is a personal thing that is specific to each individual person. This is something I never really considered before reading these posts. I'll keep you posted on how it goes (pun intended).

By the way, the lid decision was a tough one because it was hard to part with the bucks. They turned out great and I am really impressed with the paint job and the care they took to package them. If you look closely at the picture, you'll see a ton of packing materials. Here's a link to the photo: http://s1055.photobucket.com/user/ca...rusaf/library/

Brad @ Factory Match does an amazing job!! I still have boxes of packaging supplies that I use for random shipping, that all came from Factory Match when they delivered my goods. They take every aspect of this stuff pretty damn serious.

Glad u r happy w the lids.

In fact, you're the one who recommended them...you were spot-on!
