Default Questions about Rushmore speaker pods

I have a set of Hertz HCX165 my 2015 Ultra fairing powered by a Diamond Audio micro4v2. The amp is bridged now since I keep my tourpak off a lot and I know the Hertz would like the bump in power. So my question is has anyone had good results with running a hole saw into the pods for some ports to let some air get to these speakers?

I checked into Biketronics for their brackets and everyone on here said they got theirs for around 150. Now they are telling me 239. Which is in my opinion high considering I could fab something up myself eventuality. But really wouldn't just putting some holes in the pods just get me what I am looking for?

When I had those speakers in the pods I started with a 1/2" hole. I could really hear the air rushing out, so I drilled another, and then another....ended up with (6) 1/2" holes all close to each other and the sound was gone. Still alot of air coming out but it wasn't making the "wooshing" sound anymore. I had polyfill in the pods at the time as well.

Did it make it sound better? I also have polyfill in the pods. I would think that these suckers would be getting pretty hot with that much power at high volume.

Yeah that's a lot for the brackets! They must be getting very popular.

In the meantime, absolutely.....drill out a 3 inch hole, and some light polyfill inside the pod.

I am sure they are and I understand they have to make money. But I will fab something up before I spend that kind of money on a bracket. Hell THATS close to what a decent set of speakers cost. I would have no problem paying 150, but 239 that's a little much.

I was thinking a 2 or 3 1" holes to keep the pod structurally strong. Since that is what supports and strengthens the inner fairing.

I think it did help. Mostly got rid of the annoying buzzing sound the pods were making.

Great man thanks for the reply. I'm gonna give it a shot.

Biketronics did send me a reply and said 219 for forum members. Still to high for me...

Please understand I'm not trying to talk bad about Biketronics. I'm sure they make a great product. I'm just not gonna pay a premium price for something I can take care of myself.

Hi,

I understand they seem expensive, here is what goes into them, all built by us or local shops -

1. Two expensive laser cut, CNC bent, and zinc coated large steel brackets
2. Four CNC machined aluminum pieces.
3. An assortment of stainless steel hardware - nylock nuts, standoffs, and misc screws/bolts.

We will always give forum guys 10% off them, or more depending what else you get. When we just had one or two guys buy them it was OK to do it just breaking even but now that we have a lot of requests to get them by themselves we have to make it a real product that we do not lose money on. If we got them done in China we could probably sell them for a fourth as much, but we won't do that.

When I gave up on getting decent sound out of the pods, after trying everything I could think of over about two months, I had no idea how hard they would be to replace. I just figured we could whip out a bracket and be good. That did not happen, it took months of prototypes to get it done. None of the mounting surfaces are square, everything is at a weird angle and on different planes. It is the worst part we have ever made by a very large margin.

So while I understand they seem expensive, we are not making anywhere near what most businesses would consider enough of a profit to sell a product. We did not sell them separate for a long time because they are so expensive, we could help cover the cost when we sell them with other parts. Because of the cost we did not ever plan to sell them separately, we are only trying to do it because we have gotten a lot of requests.

Anyway, that's the story on them and why we have to charge so much. We really appreciate you guys and want to be as transparent as possible on everything.

Thanks,

Bill

I am sure they are a great product and at some point I'm sure I will end up getting a set. I know you have done more research on the issue that anyone. I think I need to prove to myself that I need them. I haven't been able to ride the bike since I put the Hertz speakers in. Again I wasn't trying to bash you or your product, and I totally understand your running a business and have to make money. But I'm gonna try and port the pods to see if it gets me where I need to be. If not you kinda have the market cornered. Lol. Thanks again Bill for helping our community with your work.
