Default Bag Lid Speakers / Leaks

I recently purchased the Level 4 soundz kit with Focal 6x9's and the Hogtunes bag lids for my 15 street glide. I was mocking everything up prior to paint and realized that the Focals do not have a bridged tweet which I would assume would let some water in to my bags.

3 Questions.

Has anyone used the Hogtunes 6x9s and How do they sound in comparison to other brands?

Is anyone running the Focal 6x9s and how much water do they actually let in?

If you did not use the hogtunes speakers what did you do to fill the hole?

I have the opportunity of sending the Focals back as long as they have not been used and the bike is currently not wired up so I haven't even been able to listen to the hogtunes. I just want to know if they are worth the extra $350 and possibility of letting water in the bag.

1. Could not stand the HT 6x9s. Loud but no SQ.

2. Not running the Focal 6x9 now but I did for a while and they delivered exactly what Focal is known for, sound quality. No water got in.

3. No water got in because I got my trusted dremmel out and cut the HT speaker bridge off in the exact spot that kept the seal where a non HT 6x9 would mount flush. Caulked that little piece in place with a marine grade clear caulk, and that sucker is water tight. Took just a few minutes and well worth it to get some better tunes.

Now if u want to go all in, get some black speaker cloth for 10 bucks and some scotch guard or similar product and spray a couple of coats on the cloth. Cut this to fit over the face of the speaker and bolt the speaker in place. This will do a bunch to protect that speaker from the elements and looks damn good too as it cleans up what u might see thru the grills.

Hope this helps.

Have HogTune's lids & speakers on 2014 Road King. I hear decent music at ANY speed. Biketronics 2180 amp. Lids & speakers look to be water tight, not rain tested yet. Just a simple 2 speaker iPod system.

I purchased the Hogtunes lids and per recommendations in the forum, I also purchased Infiniti 6x9's...big mistake! The fitment was terrible and the large tweeter hole was too much and the 6x9's wouldn't fit. I tried to use wood cutouts and nothing worked, so I had to purchase the Hogtunes speakers. While they get good reviews, they've very high on treble, but certainly worth the $50 I paid. If I had to do it over, now that I'm over $1,000 in the hole, I would have done without rear speakers altogether because you can't really hear them above 15 to 20 mph. But if you're going to have them, I would purchase another brand to fit better speakers. Sorry for the candid feedback, that's just my opinion.

Sorry to hear the lids did not work out the way you expected.
I have the same lid setup and have had everything from the HT speakers to Kappas, Kickers, Pioneer, and Focals. Hell, even put components in that hole with an adapter ring. They all fit.

The HT speakers were in the trash in record time so if that's the set up u have committed to, I totally understand your frustration.

Sorry about ur buyers remorse bro!!!!!

Those speakers have fit in plenty of other installs.

Tailwind thanks for the tip. I was going to send out my lids for paint today. Maybe I should grind off the bridges first? I realize it will be covered by the speaker but imagine I will be grinding through the paint. This will also delay my install as I do not have the speakers yet. Also - instead of speaker cloth what do you think of using this - specifically designed cloth for keeping water out - http://www.moflowvents.com/pre-filter-hydrophobic-mesh/ Good thing I am a snowmobiler!

No clue about that cloth but u just never know.

Also, would not hurt at all to do the fabrication work at all prior to paint but since ur only removing the tweeter bridge on the inside of the lid doing it after paint is not the end of the world.

Let us know what u think of that potential grill cloth. Just make sure ur getting enuff noise flowing thru them.
