Default Stock head unit distortion

I checked 3 different head units from 02 to 2010 with a DD1meter and could not get over 6bars on the volume before The meter saw distortion.
So if you are thinking about upgrades using tour stockBu I would think twice. Bout it

Have you tried it on a 2014+ HU with after market amps, line levelers and good speakers?

Edit: will this work with adjusting line leveler gains with an amp with no gain adjustment like a BT 21/4180?

Do you plan on setting your line leveler gains with this? If so I'd be interested in where they end up compared to default.

I have the DD-1 also, and you have me thinking. I have heard the Rushmore HU starts to distort at four dots from max. I'm going to have the fairing off next week. I still have software version 1.19.2. It will be interesting to see where the HU starts to distort with version 1.19.2 and then with 1.19.0.

BTW, where were you taking the reading from on the old HK HU's?

Please stop at 19.1 along the way if u are totally bored. Just a few months back everyone raved about 19.1 so many many folks are pregnant with this update thus it would be very helpful to provide that comparison for such folks.

Thanks in advance!!!

T.

Here are some test results on the Rushmore 6.5 Infotainment System.

Bike 2015 Ultra - HEAD UNIT TEST ONLY.
The readings were taken from the front left speaker high level output connection coming directly from the HU. No other devices were involved. See pic below.
Bass-Flat, Treble-Flat, Fate-Middle, AVC Off.
Software version 1.19.0.
Testing tools: SMD DD-1 and DMM.
Testing done with bike on Acc and a fully charged battery.

Test 1: with 1KHz 0dB test tone.
To my surprise the HU did not distort at max volume.

Code:
Volume VAC
13 4.4
14 6.3
15 7.9
16 8.5
17 8.5
Test 2: 40Hz 0dB test tone.

HU started to distort at volume mark 15 out of 17.

Code:
Volume VAC
13 5.7
14 8.0 (non distorted)
15 8.1
16 8.2
17 8.2
The average between the two tests is volume mark 16.
So the maximum non distorted volume on the Rushmore HU (bike not running) with software version 1.19.0 is 16 using the DD-1 and there instructions.

Connection:

Using high level outputs, line out converter or line leveler?

Someone may read this and think they are all the same.

Nice findings
I will do mine as soon as the rest of my upgrade parts show up. Hopefully everything will be here by this weekend
I will include the BESTBUY truconnect line converters I am presently using and with Biketronics bt355 I will be installing
