I have an 09 Street Glide and am working on upgrading the sound system but also trying not to break the bank. I went with an Aquaticav head unit and the JM 7" speakers. My concern is thr speakers are mids and tweeters only and the bass will be lacking. My idea is a powered sub to fill in the low end. Would mounting it in the fairing where the amp would go create an issue with radio reception and playback? I'd like to avoid putting it in a saddle bag but if the new radio isn't going to work because of the sub then I have to do it. Any thoughts?

The Aquaticav head unit has a built in amp already and with the current set up it's not like I need one I just don't want to be loud and missing half the quality of the music.

Perfect info.
I have tried this and it is a dry well. Pulled in out immediately. IMHO, do not waste ur time and money on this. It sounds terrible and even then is only a parking lot devise. U start the sled and this sub becomes basically muted.
I would go back to the drawing board and come up with a different strategy that will fit your desires and budget. Maybe lowers? Lids? Speakers inside the saddlebags?
If it were me I would get a long term plan together and first decide how far down this audio road u r going to go. From that point, we can all share with you are experiences to assist your plan and decisions. Don't care if it's a 2, 4, or six speaker plan the gang here will do what they can to assist.
Most important, don't waste your hard earned money on the powered sub.

Thanks for the honest, insightful and quick answers. It's much appreciated. I'd love to do lids with speakers but that price goes up pretty quickly as I'm sure you know.

Honestly to start you on the right path those jm speakers need better amplification than the Aquatic internal amp even. Lids are not that costly depending on color of course. Matazu are good affordable lids($150 range), contact LL247 about an amp and speakers, ditch the jm, and discuss a set of 6.5's and 6x9 that fit your budget. If your bike is black then they come pre painted vivid black if you choose that option. You will have a difficult time hearing the front speakers off the Aquatic at highway speeds.

Totally agree with Slye as a good long term plan. If ur budget is progressive just take baby steps but make sure u have a plan.
Get the amp and the fairing in a great place making sure the amp will accommodate ur long term goals. Then u can work on the lids based on your wallet.
If ur financially ready to dive into the deep end, get the amp, 6.5s for fairing (components if possible), lids, 6x9s, done.
