I just finished installing my new Arc 600.4 amp and holy shi* it sounds good. I got a smoking deal from LL on the amp and a pair of Arc 692's. I replaced the SS pn4.1000d with the Arc 600.4 today and what a difference! I only have the Hertz HCX 165's in the fairing so far but the Hertz really sound awesome with the ARC amp. I am truly impressed with the difference in sound quality. I am still running the HD speaker wiring and 10ga power and ground but I wanted to hear the Arc without replacing all of the wiring so I expect it will sound even better with the better wiring setup. I plan on rewiring and adding the 692's as a winter project but didn't want the downtime in the middle of riding season. The SS pn4.1000D only has a few hours on it and I wish I had gone with the Arc amp in the first place but the SS pn4.1000D is still a good amp for the $.
Update, I posted the above before I put the outer fairing back on. It sounds even better now. I didn't think the outer fairing made that much difference with the speaker pods but evidently it does. One surprising thing is the thump from the HCX 165's. I figured I wouldn't get much low end until I installed the 692's but it is amazing how much more there is with the 600.4 than there was with the SS.
A big thanks to LL, Slye, Haze, Gann, Tailwind and all of the others that have contributed to this forum and helped me to put together a killer audio system.

stock headunit? did the arc amp affect radio reception?
Your saying that the stock wiring that your 14 comes with, (speaker pods and internal wiring) would make your setup better? How so? I am not being a smartass, but woud like to know so I can redo mine as I just blew a set of PBR's and Focals
I am saying the opposite. I expect it to sound even better when I replace all of the stock speaker wires. What the post was all about is how much better it sounds with the new amp in spite of still having the factory speaker wiring. I have everything sitting in the garage but just couldn't wait to hear the new amp. I went really conservative on the gain until I get it all changed out. Sorry to hear about you blowing your speakers, focals aren't cheap.

Glad your happy with the setup. Clean power always prevails. You likely wont notice much difference in the sound with the other wiring but size is appropriate for the power you are running. 18 is tad small and same with the 10g on power and ground. That's why we steered you to the wire size. Like anything mechanical sizing is important. Just like a water line. To get x amount of flow you need y size main line and z size branch lines.
HOLY SHI* Springer if you don't do nothing else this riding season you need to change out that 10 gauge power and ground for the 8 gauge that amp requires.
There are all sorts of bad things can happen Supplying that amplifiers power and ground with a 10 gauge
You have a 30 amp fuse and wire supplying a machine that is asking for up to 60 amps.
That's a recipe for fire. I'm not an audio expert but I did hold a master electricians license for many years
I understand that the 10ga wire is a bit undersized and have the 8ga ready to install but it is a bigger job than I want to tackle in the middle of riding season. The Soundstream that I had in there before was working harder than the Arc on the same wiring. I ran it yesterday for over an hour at high volume and the power and ground wires never even got slightly warm. The amp is double fused and an additional 30 amp fuse is about 5 inches from the battery.

Springer I've lived my whole life right on the edge, funny cars, sky diving, scuba diving, para sailing, drag boats and two beautiful psychotic violent women. (Damn...i do miss them sometimes) But I would not leave the house with your setup.
But hey buddy maybe I'm just getting old. Enjoy your ride and tunes
