Since it's dropping into the 20s and teens this week i finally got the time to try a couple things out that i have been wanting to for a little bit. I had the Hertz MLK165.3 components in the fairing along with a set of Hertz HSK165XL components sitting on the shelf. The gain on my Diamond 800.2 is set just where i want it, so i didn't touch that, but I played with the crossover setting while the MLKs were in there and got it to sound as good as i can. Then, instead of pulling everything out, i just switched the woofers and dialed in the HSK woofer with the ML 28.3 tweeters and MLK crossover the best that i could, still leaving the gain the same. Overall i like the setup with the HSKs better. More bass (punch) response, but like Slye has mentioned before, there is a slight decrease in SQ, but not enough for me to put the MLK 165 woofers back in. Unfortunately a little while back before i took some advice on keeping the treble down i blew the tweeters in my Focal EC165Ks, just using them as a mid range right now with Hertz MPX690s in the lids (for now).
After messing around today I'm wondering if i should really change anything besides the EC165Ks with my KRCs. I am definitely liking my fairing a lot more now, but it is over powering my rear even while just parked.
Through the phone speaker, it sounds like way to much bass. Or distortion. Also could be the walls that are surrounding the bike. Get that thing outside!

Zero distortion. This song has a twang to the beat, but just flat out pounds. The JL hit that hard. It is 8° with snow falling. My bike wont leave the garage till March ot April.
Sounds really good Slye, man I am wanting some of those JL 8.8's bad. The tour pack lid they make for the 8.8's is for the newer 14 and up tour paks. I will keep watching for a late model used tour pack setup.
I think you have found the answer to the "cant hear no bass" on the HWY issue...LOL. It sounds like you are running subs in the bags, but with the way those are positioned in the lids, I don't think they willt wash out on the HWY they way most bag subs do

I didn't know the tour pack lid was 14+ only. You can always buy the top and bottom, and sell your pack. I didn't get the chance before the weather turned to try this on the road. Lids still in mock-up, going to painter next week , along with every other piece of my bike. Without sacrificing bag space, these JL's are about the best for all around with a killer low end. Plus they are made in USA to boot.
Last vid for while. Tearing bike down for paint and will have my dsp by then to fine tune more. https://youtu.be/ks9BcMPhzjA
My brutha!!! That's what I'm talking about. That pa clarity in the front and some serious boom in the back. Sounds fantastic. Outside with volume up that's really gonna shine.

You know it!!! Wished I would have went a route like this from beginning, but took baby steps to decide if I wanted to go very far. All because I didn't want to ditch certain gauges. With the new Dakota Digital gauges I am all good. Can't wait till spring so I can get it out.
