I have a 09 Street Glide with the 5.25 speaker opening. I put adaptors in to fit 6.5's. I am wondering if anyone has modified their stock opening to fit 6.5's without a adaptor? I feel like the adaptor is pushing the speaker to far back into to fairing and interfering with the bass/sound quality.
I thought about trying to mount the 6.5 on the outside of the fairing, but I will need to put taller bars on.
I would just stick with the adapters. To much of a pita to try and mod. Your sound quality will not suffer by using them. You won't get any bass anyway.
I'm running some Polk 6.5". I had a Hogtunes, took that out.
I was just curious because the newer style S.G have the speakers a lot closer to fairing. Was thinking if it was easier, might be a little better sound and maybe a little louder because the speaker isn't sunk in so far.
Wrap the back of the speakers with fiberfil.......that will help tremendously.
That helps the sound project towards you instead of getting lost inside the fairing.
Bunch of threads on that subject.....do a search.

No amp to them yet. Running an aftermarket radio. Just installed a 2 channel Punch amp for my Polk 6x9 lids.
I'm actually surprised how the 6.5 sound with just stereo head running them.

Dam it man! You have to run an amp to your fairing speakers! Night and Day difference!
