Default Head unit help

Ok. So next stage lol. When does it stop? Need more clarity and volume so I want to add a head unit. I believe research has been done here what's everyone's opinion. I see a lot of Sony mexm70bt. I like the 5v preouts and rear USB. But want to make sure I do it right the first time. Tired of replacing stuff constantly. Is there a better unit? Isn't there one that has no distortion at max volume? I don't want to get rid of stock head unit look but it's give and take so atleast prefer the black hu vs silver like kenwiod unless that's the way to go. Thanks in advance.

I've had 2 Sony mex 70 Bt units.
The first one was great but I replaced it thinking I had a bad output. I troubleshot wrong and it was the soundstreem amp which was the cause.

The "new" Sony mex 70 Bt is a bit of a pain where by the demo mode keeps coming on by itself while riding regardless of shutting it off it still comes back on causing a lack of hand control while it's in this mode.

The first unit never did that.

It's got a few too many bells and whistles for me. If I had to buy another one I'd probably seek guidance from Mr. G and the boys and go a different direction.
Stay tuned. They will probably advise.

Nice name! Lol
Good luck.

Kenwood 998 is another good choice..a lot of guys on here using it..has a signal processor built in to tune front and rear channels separately!

Yeah that! If you are skeptical of the Sony. The Kenwood 998 is a great choice. Of course I love my Sony Mex M70BT. I have not experienced any of the issues as my friend Gliden. It's been a great HU for me!! But like anything else there's always a couple lemons in the bunch. I don't think you can go wrong with either. The Alpine CDE-HD149BT is also a very popular choice.

Lots of options, I've been running a Alpine HU for over three years now and no issues. Plenty of fine tuning features, but the thing won't break....Use a thumb drive filled with 1,000 plus songs and ride. Only complaint, hard to see background in direct sunlight, at night, like a disco party....Good luck.

How about a good media only HU. Options for ones who don't need or want a CD or satellite option.

Thanks.

Note: These are generic setting for 6.5 speakers.
Each setup well vary and may need different EQ, Crossover, and speaker settings.

Here are some setting to get you started on the X998.

A lot of the options turned OFF in these settings are intended for car audio and would have no effect on a bike in the open air.

The following setting will have to be set for each source that you are going to use, ie USB, CD etc.

Maybe someone with the Pioneer Pros can chime in on X-over setting. I would be interested in what you end up with with these speakers.

It helps to keep notes by printing out page 18-23 from the manual
Note: Set or readjust the gains on the amp after making these settings. Aggressive EQ setting will have an impact on distortion.

(*) Can be set to your liking

Set Drive Equalizer to OFF
Set Preset Equalizer to USER
* Manual Equalizer - Adjust GAINS to each Band:
Band1 = 3
Band2 = 2

Aquatic Gen 1 and 2 have storage. A bit expensive but also plug and play to retain OEM hand controls.
