Default Another budget 2 speaker thread

After having a stock HK head unit(which the CD player hasn't worked on in 3 years) and stock fairing speakers in my 2011 Street Glide, I am going to be doing some upgrades this winter.

I've done a ton of digging through these forums, reading a lot of the information you guys have posted. I'm narrowing down the route I'm gonna go and would like some opinions.

Head unit:
Sony MEXM70BT ($170)
Aquatic AV AQ-MP-5BT-H ($300)

Amp:
Cerwin Vega B52 ($140)
Soundstream PN2.350D ($95)

Speakers:
Infinity Kappa 62.11i ($100)
Hertz HCX 165 ($200)

I'll also be using Stinger 8000 RCAs and Dynamat.

My gut is telling me the Sony/CV/Infinity setup just based on an abundance of people saying how great it sounds and how much power the Infinitys can take. Also, this route would be a lot more friendlier on the budget.

I'm staying away from new lids and speakers because eventually I will be doing 2014+ style bags and will have to get lids at that point.

Thanks in advance.

You'll also need speaker adaptors and a module for your hand controls to work. If your on a budget get a cheaper radio. 8000 series Stingers are complete overkill for a budget set up so save some money there and get 4000 series or any RCA from a reputable brand. The Cerwin amp is infinitely better. As for speakers the hertz sound better, the kappas will sound louder.

Yes, definitely will have to get the adapters and module for hand controls. I got the Stinger recommendation from you so thanks for that. As far as the speakers go, I have cams and a Fat Cat with the loud baffle so that was another reason I was leaning towards the Infinity/CV combo.

What other head units do you recommend? I hadn't completely done the homework and didn't realize the module for hand controls is around $140. Would it make more sense to go with the Aquatic AV unit for the same price as a Sony/Kenwood deck with a hand control module?

I'd go with a RF TM400x2 and Focal KRC (i may be a bit biased here since I'm selling this combo lol). I am a fan of the CV amps, but have not heard any of the 2 speakers you are looking at. The KRC are loud and clear as you can get in a coaxial as far as I've had in my fairing. Keep an eye on the classifieds for good deals and these guys here will point you in the right direction.

Thanks for the advice, and yes, I am sure that setup sounds phenomenal, but I'm not looking for $550 amps and $550 coaxials. If I had that kind of budget to throw at the audio, I wouldn't have mentioned any of the products I'm looking at lol

You will be infinitely happier with the Sony and hand control module and mounting kit over the gen 1 aquatic that I can assure you. The whole setup for the sony is around 299.00. As far as speakers go you listed 200 for HCX. I have only seen that price on ebay recently which I will strongly advise you not to buy any hertz products off ebay at all ( you will regret it if you do almost assuredly). I am curious as to what you actual budget is? I only ask because you will be rather surprised at what you can get. We have a large variety of equipment at the shop for just about any budget range. I will be glad to help any way I can.

Thanks for the advice on the head unit. My mechanic also told me the same thing today.

As far as the Hertz HCX 165 go, they are available through Amazon for $193.56 right now. That's through seller avSoundz which has a 4.9/5 stars with 28k ratings.

I'd like to keep it $500 or below for everything. I have friends with $2500 Hertz/Diamond setups and I know I'll never sound like those, nor do I want to. But right now I'm looking at $480 for the Sony MEX70BT with install kit and thumb module, Infinity Kappa 62.11i, and Cerwin Vega B52. If you have any better ideas for a similar budget, or can come close to that, I'm all ears. I am buying a new rear wheel, tires, a bigger single front brake, and air ride this winter or I'd be game to dump more than $500 in the audio.

Well on a budget even though I don't sell any of the audio stuff you asked about except the radio lol....That's not bad. Just don't forget the adapter rings, amp kits, mounts, and all that jaz. It can add up on you fast. as far as av sounds goes..word of advice if you cant go to hertz website and look them up as a dealer then do not buy from them....no warranty...which may or may not be a big deal for you just a tip. Now that being said....All the other fancy stuff you need hit me up if you need help there also bud....We are a full one stop shop for custom bikes. Again just let me know if I can help in anyway

The only dealer listed on their website in the US is Elletromedia USA. Am I missing something?
