Boom! Reccomendations
I made a deal on a 2012 Limited on Saturday and plan to seal the deal tomorrow. I already got as much stuff "thrown in" as I think I can get on top of a rock bottom price. I am considering an audio uograde. The 4 speaker Ultra Boom! bagger kit is $800, I am fairly certain I should be able to get the installation for free, does anyone have any idea what dealer cost on this system would be? I am hoping I can get it done for $600.
+1 For the $6-800 the dealer would get you for, you can get a wayyyy better system that will eat Boom systems for lunch.
I suppose this is where the trusty old search function comes into play, but suggestions are aporeciated. I would like to keep my handlebar control capability.
First try to define what kind of sound you're looking for (ear bleeding loud at 80 or warm and decently loud at 80).
And i saw you were looking at $6-800, is this where you wanna stick around? Figure out a real budget and where you would potentially want speakers. Sounds like fairing and tour pak? Any additions in mind for the future?
Take it from someone that started out with a decent budget fairing only setup, then added lids and had to add an amp/change amps, to adding to the tour pak, changing amps yet again, changing out multiple set ups, and now going all in lol. Starting with an amp that you can build off later will only save you in the end.
The classifieds can be your friend here as well.
Here is an example of what can be done on a budget, granted some of the equipment isn't included in the $500 heading:

Yeah Brotha, stay off the Boom. All u need is a good amp, for proven speaker, some simple connectors and a few other accessories and ur gonna smoke the Boom.
Your hand controls will work. The only time u will have to swap the hand controls is if u ever change out your head unit.
Get ur sled deal done and check back in. $700 bucks puts u in a killer spot for a 4 speaker set-up.

I am an electrician/instrument tecnician, so wiring is no priblem. I also do some DJ work on the side, so I understand how most of the comoonents work. I don't need ear bleeding sound, just something that sounds descent, and my wife and I can hear on the freeway with full face helmets on. My primary concern would be having some quality sound when we get to a destination, that could be remote. I just know that the only time anyone gets a discount on ANYTHING from HD is with the purchase of a bike. My sales manager has been great and already added plenty on top of a rick bottom price. I was just wondering if I should try to squeeze a little more. From the sound of it, it sounds like the answer is to not bother. I have seen what appears to be a descent 4 speaker setup from Rockford Fosgate. Also I saw where some Polk Audio speakers were reccomended. At this time, I think a 4 speaker setup would be fine, possibly do speakers in the lowers. Bag lids are definitely not in the budget at this time. I would like to stay under $800 for sure, $500 would make me, and most importantly, my WIFE happy. Thanks for the input, and keep the info flowing please!

I have the Stage II Audio installed... blows the hell out of the weak-*** factory setup. Sounds VERY nice TO ME, and will get loud enough that it hurts my ears (two-clicks from full is TOO loud). One of my buddies rolled up to a light with me, and asked me where my subwoofer was installed; on a two speaker system.
I have little doubt I'll be flamed, my friend insulted, and my intelligence questioned, but for ME, the entire bike (including the audio) is 100% covered for 7 years by the ESP, AND it sounds as nice as I can imagine it sounding. Including compared to some of my buddies "aftermarket" setup.
YMMV.

If you enjoy your system it really doesn't matter what anyone else says, turn it up and enjoy the hell out of it
