Greetings. A cry for help to the audio gods. A friend of mine has an 08 street glide with the following:
SONY DSX 310BTX head unit
RF PBR 300x2 amp
BT Titan II speakers, all in the fairing.
He has the amp hooked up with RCAs
He has a BT "Retro Radio" module for his controls
I have not yet heard this but he's been pissing about how crappy it sounds since he's put it in. Says it sounds tinny and distorts when he turns it up.
I am going over there to have a peek at it but the fact is, I don't really know what to check. He claims 8ga power and ground to the battery.
What should I look for or do? I have a voltmeter but i'll be damned if I know how to use it.
In a related story, I will be offering a one time discount for my Motorcycle Stereo Diagnostic Services to forum members. Enter code "you have no clue"
Also those speakers very loud and clear but not really "warm" sounding. With the high level inputs you should get better dynamic sound from the increased voltage.
shut this thread down, mission accomplished. I now have my PhD in troubleshooting. WTR, thanks for the link to that thread! No more discounts either. Full price from here on out.

It could have been any one or a combination of a few things.
1. He had a metal speaker bracket that ran from the radio out to the edge of the fairing that was touching the spade connectors on the speaker on both sides.
2. His crimp connections were held on by a thread. When I pulled the wires off the speaker to test, the spade stayed on the speaker and the wire came out.
3. His amp was turned up far beyond where it should be
4. He had his amp crossover set to "all pass" instead of high pass running Titan IIs
So we put new spades on speaker wire, adjusted the metal speaker brackets so they would never touch the speaker terminals again, used the test tone to set the amp then set it to HP and set the filter at hat appeared to be 135hz or so. He was happy and said it was a massive improvement. Texted me later and said it sounded even better with the fairing on and was grateful for our assistance.
Thanks again.
The funniest part for sure was when I pulled the speaker wire from the speaker and 3 of the 4 connectors just stayed on the speaker...Not like I yanked on them. they just slid out....Ummmm, this might be a problem.
Did you take the RCA's off and hook up the amp via high level inputs? If not you should have. The amp sounds and performs better this way. I also would've left the amp on all pass and set the HPF with the HU.

So about this. There were two RCA's coming out of the RF amp that had two wires going into each RCA plug. In order to connect it to high level inputs do you snip those plugs off and connect to the corresponding wires? from the HU?
I didn't want to start clipping wires on someone else's stuff without knowing exactly what I was doing. The fairing can easily be removed and we can get back in there to do it. And that radio is like a labyrinth. They couldn't have made a more complicated head unit with regard to settings and crap. I didn't know you could set a HPF on that HU. Sounds like we will be going back in. Thank you, I appreciate the help.
